Not as planned

The man Dipper looks up to, Grunkle Ford, the author of the journals, finally extends an invitation to go monster hunting. Dipper is overjoyed to be with his hero and can't stop screaming about how happy he is to be with the writer, but Grunkle Ford just looks at him and says nothing meaningful about his zeal and other things. Dipper eventually gives up trying to strike up a conversation and just quiets down. Dipper even begins to experience humiliation and shame. Dipper, who was initially overjoyed, enthusiastic, and jittery, ended up returning home in a sad mood. "Hey, what's up with the kid?" Grunkle Stan asked Ford as they returned to the shack. And all Ford can say is, "I'm not sure, he's probably just tired." Later on Ford realizes he messed up.
