Lake Manitoc

Blues music played softly in the background as Dean and Nova sat silently at the counter. Dean was busy circling a woman's picture in the newspaper as Nova scribbled in her brand-new journal. After defeating the Wendigo, Nova begged Dean to take her shopping for a thick journal in the nearby town. Being in love with the girl, Dean accepted and even bought the book for her. She settled for a fake, berry red leather journal, that had many pages to fill and two strings on the side to tie the book together. Nova was extremely happy with her choice and thanked Dean about a hundred times.

So now as Dean looked for a new hunt, Nova had all her journal supplies spread across the counter. Her first page was completed in the car and was filled with how she became a hunter and her family. The next page was about her last hunt, she drew pictures, wrote its strengths and weakness, labelled the drawings, wrote its backstory, and even slid a Polaroid picture of Tommys injuries to show what it does to people, which he gave consent for.

Every so often, Dean would glance to his left to watch the girl focus on her new journal and smile at how hard she tried to make it factual and pretty at the same time.

"Can I get you anything else?" The waitress's voice brought Dean out of his trance and turned to her. She was leaning on the counter, right in front of Dean showing off her cleavage just a little.

"Just the check, please," Sam answered, coming back from the restroom and sitting on Nova's other side.

"Okay." The waitress spoke, smiling widely at Dean, not even glancing at his brother.

"You know, Sam, we are allowed to have fun once in a while," Dean stated once the waitress left. "That's fun." He continued, pointing at the waitress from afar.

Sam did not reply to Dean, only looking at him with upset eyes. However, Nova did respond taking the brothers' attention away from each other and over to her.

"You know what's fun? Journaling. This is so therapeutic, no wonder your dad journaled a whole entire book." She spoke, shoving some more fries into her mouth.

Dean shook his head with a grin. "Here, take a look at this I think I got one." He explained, handing the paper he circled over to his brother. "Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week, Sophie Carlton, 18, walks into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water, nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found, either. They had a funeral two days ago."

"A funeral?"

"Yeah it's weird, they buried an empty coffin for closure or whatever."
