Running down multiple streets and alleys, Sam and Nova found no trace of the shapeshifter. Giving up with where they were, the two decided to head back to the car and wait for Dean. They were leaning against the side of the impala, talking about where the monster could've gone when they spotted Dean walking towards them.

"Anything?" Dean called out.

"No," Nova responded shaking her head.

"He's gone," Sam added as Dean stopped at the back of the car.

"You got the keys?" Dean asked, raising his hand to catch the item.

Sam began to dig around in his pocket before latching onto the metal keys. He turned on his feet to face his brother, not yet throwing him the item.

"Hey, didn't Dad once face a shapeshifter in San Antonio?"

"No, it was Austin. And it turned out not to be a shapeshifter. It was a thought-form. A psychic projection, remember?" Dean corrected causing Sam to let out a breath of realisation.

"Oh, right. Here you go." Sam responded, throwing the keys at Dean, who caught them with his left hand.

From the other side of the car, Nova watched in confusion as Dean's arm was raised with no issue, no grunting, no hesitation. There was nothing Nova could do without a gun but watch as Dean opened the compartment to reveal all of their weapons and smile widely at the sight.

"Don't move," Sam shouted, pointing a gun at Dean's chest as he stepped out from the shadows.

"Dude, chill. It's me, all right?" Dean tried to reassure, raising his arms like he was surrendering.

"No, I don't think so. Where's my brother?"

"You're about to shoot him. Sam, calm down."

"You caught those keys with your left. Your shoulder was hurt."

"Yeah, it's better. What you want me to do, cry?"

Again, Nova watched hopelessly as Sam questioned the shapeshifter.

"You're not my brother," Sam stated in a low tone but Nova could see the hesitation within him.

"Why don't you pull the trigger, then. Because you're not sure," 'Dean' mocked. "Dude you know me."

"Don't listen to it, Sam, it's just toying with you," Nova spoke up but it was too late.
