You stare down at the paper in front of you, frustrated that you don't understand anything that's written on the paper. Of course, it's math, the only subject you struggle with.
It's only the second month of the semester and you're struggling, but you're trying not to be so hard on yourself since it's your first year of college.
Homework just seems to be getting more complicated as time flies by, which you expected but you didn't expect piles of work constantly.
You miss your dad being around because he's wickedly smart. And sadly, you're about 3 hours away from home, and hardly ever see your family.
If things get too bad, you'll have to find a tutor.
Falling back against the couch, you groan. And suddenly you're feeling quite lonely. It sucks being so far away from your family.
The only friend you have is your roommate, Nayeli. You're very lucky to have her around.
The door swings open and the young woman steps inside the dorm, her eyes landing on you. "How was class today?" She asks.
"Boring. Another day of useless note-taking." You sigh in response, pausing the TV and pushing your homework to the side.
She walks toward the couch and plops down beside you, dropping her bag. "We don't ever go out, but there's a football game tonight. My friend Suguru invited me, and I wasn't going to go...but if you're down, we can go together."
You purse your lips, pondering on it. "Maybe. What time does it start?" A break from homework sounds nice.
"6:00. We have like 2 hours to get ready and we can eat before we go, if you'd like." She smiles widely.
Nodding, you shrug. "I don't see why not."
Within those 2 hours, you two spent your time getting ready and finding a restaurant to eat at before finally heading to the game.
All the annoying people are seated at the bottom, so Nayeli guides you to the top of the bleachers so you can enjoy the game in peace.
You've never been to a football game, and you don't know anything about it. But once they start playing, you try to pay attention to what they're doing so maybe you can understand a bit better. All you know is that they throw a ball and tackle each other.
"There's Suguru." Nayeli grins while pointing to one of the males on the field and then they call his name out on the intercom.
The boys on the field are cheering while surrounding Suguru.
Looking around, you notice off to the side there are 2 other players about to get into an argument, one from each team. A coach runs up and has to separate the two.
"I swear he's something else." Nayeli shakes her head.
You look at her. "Are you friends with him too?"
"Eh, not really. We've talked a few times. But he's not really that friendly." Nayeli answers. "He's Suguru's best friend though, so I've heard stories."
Nodding, you look back onto the field watching him rip off his helmet and throw it down while walking away.
And the game continues without him and you start to enjoy yourself, finding yourself jumping up occasionally for touchdowns or getting mad at foul plays.
But eventually, the game ends with a win for your team and both of you head down the bleachers, some of the football players huddled down at the end of the field.
"Suguru!" Nayeli calls out with a huge smile on her face.
You follow her as she heads over to him, and he's turning away from his friends, his eyes landing on her as she approaches. His arms open immediately and he's pulling her in for a hug.
A smile appears on your face as you watch them.
Nayeli pulls away first and turns slightly, her eyes landing on you. "This is my best friend."
"Nice to meet you." Suguru smiles kindly. "I don't know if you guys are busy after this but...there's going to be a party to celebrate our win. If you want to come, I can text the address."
You tilt your head. "Doesn't sound like a bad idea. I need a good break from homework anyway."
"Okay, you down?" Suguru looks down at Nayeli and she nods. "Good. I'll text you the address and see you there."
They pull away from each other and Nayeli returns to your side and you're smiling at her.
She looks confused at first, but eventually, she realizes and looks away.
"Is he your friend? Or what?" You ask teasingly.
"He's really really hot. And he's super sweet which is what I admire most about him, but I doubt he'd ever see me that way. Star football player, yeah, no." Nayeli sighs, shoving her hands in her jacket.
You shrug. "Never know. Get a couple of drinks in you at the party or something and talk to him."
She laughs lightly and shakes her head before you pull her close, wrapping an arm around her as you two head to her car to head back to the dorm to change outfits.

Music plays in the background while you two get ready, and you just finished up.
You stand from the chair and make your way over to the mirror, looking over your outfit to make sure it isn't too much.
Nayeli pops her head in. "Oh my...you look so cute. I've never seen you in a dress before."
"Well, you haven't seen my full potential yet." You grin while placing your hands on your hips.
The girl approaches you and together you stand in front of the mirror, standing side by side. "I think we look hot." She says.
"I think so too." You nod in agreement.
"Suguru texted me the address. I guess it's at the frat house. You still okay to go?" Nayeli double-checks so that you know what you're walking into.
You appreciate that. "Yeah, of course. Now...let's go get this fucking party started."
She smiles and both of you grab all of your things, turning the music off along with the lights before heading out to a night you'll never forget.
