1 year before the prologue:
June 2018
It was Engfa’s graduation day in Camden University. Finally, she's going to have a degree in Music, one of the few things she's good at.
Her fist were balled in her lap, excitement filling her nerves as she waited for her turn to march on the stage.
“Engfa Waraha,” the Dean of their department finally called out her name. She stood, wearing a beautiful smile on her face as the crowds cheered for her.
“That’s my girl!” she can hear Tina screamed from the crowd, she couldn't help but laugh.
As she went to the stage to get her diploma, she went to shake her Dean’s hands and then Mrs. Neigman, her favorite professor and an incredible pianist she knew.
“Congratulations, Engfa. Please don't forget us once you finally become a famous artist,” the professor beamed at her.
“I won’t, Ma'am. I won't,”
She dreamed of becoming an artist, writing and producing her own songs. She also planned on getting a doctorate in music, but that would have to wait. Right at the moment, all she wanted was to celebrate this little achievement of hers with her family and friends.

“Congratulations, darling,” Charlotte greeted her with an embrace once she got near her girlfriend. “I am so proud of you,” Charlotte beamed at her.
“Thank you,” she said sincerely, “I wouldn't have done this without you. Thank you for supporting me,”
“I didn't do anything, it's all because of you. You'd excell in everything you do because you're amazing. I love you, Fa,” Charlotte leaned in and kissed her girlfriend in the middle of the crowd.
“You guys surely don't know how to be considerate of your surroundings, yeah? Wait until I got myself a girlfriend,” Tina from somewhere interrupted them with her silly antics.
“Wait, I remembered you asking me something about Char’s friend from her department, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but was it Heidi?”
Tina’s eyes went wide at her friend’s revelation and went to cover Engfa’s mouth, preventing her from spilling one of her dearest secret.
“You asshole!” Tina had Engfa's neck under her arm in a mock headlock position, the latter was laughing out loud. They were getting the attention of the crowd but they couldn't care less.
“Oooh, you like Heidi?” Charlotte teased their friend more that earned another laugh from Engfa.
“Shhhhhh!” someone from the back of their chair scolded them, and they laughed, silently this time.

They laid in Engfa’s bed, cuddling. Charlotte's head was in Engfa's chest, snuggling the older woman's neck, breathing in her familiar scent. They couldn't think of anything better than this.
“What’s your plan?” Charlotte asked, her voice carried a hint of sleep.
The older woman chuckled, caressing the younger woman’s hair had always made Charlotte sleepy, “Well, I'm still undecided. I have to find producers who would be willing to help me produce my songs soon,”
“No need to rush, love. You have plenty of time,” Charlotte reassured her and went to give the older woman's neck a soft kiss. “Always know that I am always here to support you,”
Engfa smiled, feeling happy and content. She love this woman so much.
“You're graduating soon, do you have any plans?” this time, the question was for Charlotte.
“Well, I went to check for the best law schools in Maine, but I doubt I will pass their expectations and meet their requirements. It's pretty high,” Charlotte said with a hint of uncertainty. Entering law school is a big challenge for her. Given that law school gives the hardest entrance exams. She couldn't help but doubt herself.
“Hey, don't doubt yourself. You can do it, I know you can.” Engfa went to sit up and look Charlotte in the eye. “You'll do great, I am sure of that. You’re Charlotte Austin, there's nothing you can't survive.” she took the younger woman's hand and gave it a kiss, then she put it in her cheeks, drawing small circles at the back of her hand.
“Ever the sweet talker,” Charlotte pinched the cheek of her girlfriend out of adoration, “Thank you.”
Engfa leaned in to give her girlfriend a kiss, a sweet, passionate kiss. Charlotte couldn't help but sigh, feeling loved and appreciated. “I love you,” she whispered.
“And I love you,” Engfa replied, her voice full of love and adoration from the younger woman.
They went back to cuddling, feeling at ease in each other's arms and embrace. Both of them thinking that there's nothing in this world they couldn't handle, as long as they're together.
Life's full of surprises, and little did they know, their life was about to take an unexpected turn that will change everything in their lives.
