They'd been walking through the jungle in the blazing sun for about an hour now and Elyse was starting to wonder if this "exploration" was such a good idea, especially given her extra company.
Kate and Jack exchanged subtle, longing looks when they thought nobody was looking- that is when Jack wasn't busy arguing with Locke about which way to go. Elyse was considering breaking off to go on her own path just to have some peace of mind.
"Over there! That's where we saw the pilot get killed by the... animal... thing..."
Kate announced, gesturing toward the large piece of plane that they came up on.
Elyse stared at it curiously, it almost looked like it belonged on a movie set. They all followed behind her and looked around the perimeter of the wreckage, to check for any lost belongings or signs of life.
Elyse peeked inside through the opening at the bottom, and realized how high Jack and Kate would've had to climb just to get up to the pilots seat, she couldn't imagine doing that herself..."You guys... You climbed all the way up there?"
She asked them hesitantly, feeling Locke at her side now, examining it as well.
"Yes, we had to if we wanted to try and save him."
Jack replied shortly, looking in for half a second before walking away from the creaking metal.
"Come on, there's nothing else here."
He added, prompting Kate to follow behind him like a puppy.
"Well, what do you think Elyse? You think there's nothing left here worth checking out?"
Locke asked with a curious wonder in his dark brown eyes. Deep wrinkles pulled in around them when he smiled at her expectantly.
"Uh- I- I guess not. I don't see anything why?"
She responded, feeling anxious by his strange demeanor.
"Well I think we both know by now, this is no ordinary island. I was just curious if you had any sort of intuition about it. You were the one who wanted to come out here after all."
He replied matter-of-factly before he shrugged and turned to follow behind Jack and Kate.
Elyse headed out after him, cringing everytime she was hit with a branch or was swiped by something with thorns.
She began to ponder what Locke had said, that it was no ordinary island. Maybe he was right. Maybe it really was some crazy monster that Jack and Kate had seen, and it really was an intuitive calling that had led her to the jungle.Elyse was never one for risky activities. In fact, she usually liked to play it safe, this voyage really wasn't much like her. She remembered Dean and their fight earlier, she began to wonder if they would come back together when she got back, or if they'd really reached the straw that broke the camel's back now.
"Where's Locke?"
Kate blurted out, stopping abruptly in front of her, causing Elyse to snap out of her daze when she stumbled over her own feet. She then looked around in confusion, seeing only Jack and Kate in front of her, and no sign of Locke in the bright green jungle that surrounded them.
"I don't know, I thought he started to follow you guys when we left the plane?"
Elyse responded, scratching her head while she searched her surroundings again and again.
"We need to keep an eye out for him. I don't trust him."
Jack said firmly with a nod before beginning to walk again.
