(Detective Troye in the MM)
Third POV
Los Angeles
7:21 pm
"Troye?" He looked from his cellphone. "This is special agent Ross Ballard. Came all the way from New York. He's here to help you with the Dinero case." Alonzo Troye stood tall, facing the man he was just introduced to. They stood eye to eye as Ballard reached for a handshake. Hesitant, Troye gripped his hand and shook hard. The handshake became a power battle as they never lost eye contact.
"Troye," Alonzo said.
"Ballard."
Captain Williams, who had introduced them, looked at the two who never lost eye contact. He shook his head knowing that they wouldn't get along. "I'll be in my office," he said walking away.
"What brings you all the way to Los Angeles? What you gotta do with my case?" Alonzo said in a low, harsh tone.
Ross shifted a little. He knew jumping right to the answer would make him seem submissive, so he took his time. "Dinero was working in New York a good two years ago. He just recently came to L.A., which is why I'm assuming this case is newer to you?" Ross arched his eyebrow, knowing he took a strike at Troye's dominance. "This has been my case for a while now, and since about four months ago, this case has really escalated."
Troye smudged his face in confusion. He hadn't heard anything new on Joey Dinero, just that he had to get that man behind bars for bringing more than half of the illegal substances into California. "Why is that? He ain't really done nothing that made us pop our eyes open recently." Alonzo said taking a seat.
"Well, when Joey Dinero was working in New York, he was second hand man to the biggest drug lord in the East Coast, Thaddeus Costello,"
"And? So what?"
"Thaddeus was killed four months ago. Along with his limo driver. His family refuses to release any new information, and no one can even identify what his family looks like. He's kept them cooped up for so long, and they were completely surrounded by bodyguards at the funeral. All the news companies were at the funeral, from the local news to CNN."
Alonzo smirked. "You still haven't gotten around to telling me what this has to do with my case."
Ballard laughed. "I'm getting there. Around the corner at the Triborough Bridge, there were dozens of dead bodies, like a shootout. They think it could have been Dinero, but we have no witnesses, and we don't know where to locate his family." Ross picked up a cup of coffee and sipped. "If we can catch him together, we can charge the bastard here in L.A. and back in New York."
Alonzo stared into deep space, then stood tall once again, this time not facing Ross. "I don't care how long you've been working this case. If you want to take this shit on together, then it's together. A 50/50 split." Alonzo stood with his back facing Ross. Ballard folded his arms and crossed one foot over the other while leaning against the wall. He smirked hard.
"Deal."

She looked over to her sleeping child. A tear rolled down her cheek as she had realized after four long months, her daughter was her only family. She was no longer a Costello. Raja Costello was no more. She stared in the mirror once again to only be looking at Nicole Riley.
