Madame Giry looked up from the letter with sorrow clear on her face. Selina held out her hand wordlessly to ask for the letter back, but Giry did not hand it to her. "I'm sorry," she said, "but the Phantom of the Opera needs to see it first." Selina's face fell, but she accepted her answer.
Adele began paying attention again. "May we see our room?" She piped up. Selina shot her a reprimanding look for her rudeness. They didn't even know if they would be allowed to stay.
"Of course, but first, Adele, I heard you are a dancer?" The said girl's face lit up at that, and nodded eagerly. A faint smile appeared on both women's faces as they watched her reaction.
Giry turned around and began to walk towards the stage where practice was ongoing, before pausing for the other two to catch up. "Meg!" she called. "Come here!"
A girl, about Adele's age, pulled away from the dancers to approach them.
"Yes, mother?" She asked. "What is it?"
"These are your cousins," she gestured to them. "Selina, and Adele. Adele is both your age, and a dancer. Take today off to teach her our current ballet, and show me tomorrow. Also, guide them to a spare room."
Meg brightened up at this news, and grabbed Adele's hand to pull her away. "Meg," her mother added, "Give them the proper rundown as well." Her mood falling, she nodded and dragged Adele backstage. Selina, worried slightly, started to follow, before the ballet master put a hand on the younger woman's shoulder.
Selina turned her head slightly to show she was listening. "Don't let her wander. It would not be wise. And...I am sorry for your loss." Giry said.
With a jerk, Selina pulled away. My mother was dead when she married my father, she thought.

Up on the bridges above the stage, The Phantom tilted his head out of curiosity. The new girl intrigued him, reminding him of someone from long ago, the woman who raised him for many years before disappearing forever.
He wanted to know more about this strange woman. He needed to learn more.
Madame Giry followed Selina with her eyes before heading to a private spot to speak with The Ghost.
