Fox woke up with the sunrise like he always did. Now that the Coruscant Guard had more staff and was treated better than droids, he could actually afford to spend five minutes enjoying the warmth of the bed and observe Riyo sleeping. Then he would get up, eat a breakfast consisted of actual meal, get dressed in his now comfortable blacks and carefully polished plastoid armor, kiss his still half asleep girlfriend and take a pleasant walk to his office.
He started his day with reading through his messages, sending some of his own and filling some reports some reports.
"Fox," Thire walked into Fox's office, the calm expression on his face being a proof that he was anything but calm. His pkeasant voice was almoust murderous.
"Is there a problem, Thire?"
"Are you out of your mind?"
"Probably but you are gonna have to be a little more specific if you want me to know what the kriff are you talking about."
"You want to investigate a kid."
"I do."
"You want to investigate a clone kid."
"Yes."
"You want to investigate a clone kid that has been adopted by one of the richest families on Coruscant."
"Yeah."
"What the kriff, Fox? It's not even your job!"
"I've been trying to explain that to Thanh."
"Wait, what does Cody's copikla ad have to do with this?"
"He asked me to look into it."
"Why didn't you say that right away? I will have someone send you the adoption papers and talk to the outraged businessman you indirectly accused of child abuse."
"Thanks, Thire."
Thire snapped Fox a mock salute on his way out of the office.
Just as Thire promised, Fox received CT-6419's adoption papers along with a headache in the form of a lawyer which Thire definitely didn't promise. Maybe this wasn't worth the title of favorite ba'vodu after all.
"This is unacceptable, commander-" the lawyer said for the fifth time and Fox once again politely corrected him that it was, in fact 'marshal commander'. Would it be a lot of a problem if the guy just accidentaly fell out of the window?
"I'm sorry, sir, but I will ask you to leave and let me do my job."
"You accused my client of child abuse. That is outrageous and unacceptable, commander, and I will not stand for it. I expect you to apologize to my client and leave their family alone."
"I'm not accusing your client of anything." Not yet.
"You have no right to invade their personal life."
"My job is to protect citizens of the Republic and when wellbeing of a child is concerned, it is my duty to step in and investigate."
"This is not an objective investigation. You are targeting my client using his child which is not only immoral, it's illegal as well."
"Sir, I know the law. Now I'm asking you for the last time to leave and leave me to my job."
The lawyer was about to answer when Riyo entered his office with a soft knock on the door. Fox loved that woman. "Marshal commander, mister Malever," Riyo addressed Fox then the lawyer. "I am sorry to interrupt but I need to speak with the commander."
"You are not interrupting at all, senator. Now if you will excuse me, sir," Fox politely threw the annoying lawyer out of his office and slammed the door shut behind him.
"How did you get involved with one of the best lawyers in the Republic?"
"The cadet Thanh told me about happened to be adopted by some billionaires. And they sent a lawyer. Meaning there is something they don't want me to find. Thanks for the save."
"My original intention was to drag you out for lunch but judging from the state of your paperwork, you are not leaving here anytime soon. I could bring us some takeout and we could eat here."
"I'm sorry I don't have more time for you, Riyo," Fox apologized, sincerely for once. "I will make it up to you once I'm done with this case."
"I knew you were a workoholic when I agreed to date you," Riyo shrugged. "I will be back in a bit with some food."
"Did I mention I love you?"
"Only about a million times," Riyo rolled her golden eyes but she did so with a fond smile. "Love you too, Foxy," she blew a kiss in Fox's general direction. "If the lawyer showed up again, give him my comm number."
And then she was gone, leaving Fox alone with his case.
Fox was usually met with the criminals of the dirty underworld, bounty hunters, smugglers, thieves, assassins. That didn't mean he was a stranger to posh elite, hiding behind money and titles, and their carefuly hidden crimes that were often even worse than the ones commited by the coruscanti low life. He served directly under Palpatine for kriff's sake.
Belia and Dushian Yure seemed to be good people on the first glance. They owned a factory producing medical supplies and founded a private healthcare organization with various clinics across the whole galaxy. They lived in a mansion on Coruscant with their adopted son. Fox even found a video how they publicaly introducet CT-6419 to the world, basically twenty minutes of bitching about their generosity. Poor kid, they talked about him like some charity project.
There was nothing more on the holonet. Fox will have to find more in an actual investigation. The lawyer wasn't going to be a problem. Fox had millions of brothers, those di'kute had to be good for something. He messaged Dogma, the former 501st trooper that decided to start a clone rights organization. Surely they could give him a paper saying it was some routine check on how well were cadets adapting to their new life.
Thanh better be wrong because if he wasn't, Fox was going to destroy the Yures. He was a marshal commander of the Coruscant Guard. If there was something wrong, Fox will find it.
