Mando'a translations are in the end of the chapter.

Fox, having served in the Coruscant Guard for the entire duration of the Clone Wars and even after, was used to cases of all tipes being thrown in his direction. However, he didn't expect to get a new case while sitting in Cody's kitchen eating an uj'alayi.

It all started innocently enough. Like so many times before, Cody invited him and Riyo for dinner. If you asked Fox, Cody has picked up a concerning habit of fattening up his brothers. Riyo thought it was nice. Not that it mattered, Fox wouldn't refuse a dinner.

He could only laugh at his past self that suspected Cody was being abused by his general. But well, he had reasons to believe the nat-borns didn't mean any good and well, when his little brother started sleeping with his general... Fox only stopped suspecting the Jedi from forcing Cody into the whole relationship thing once he saw Cody declare Obi-Wan was sleeping on the couch for dirtying the carpet. He would be the same with Bly but let's admit it, Bly was weird since he was a cadet, he was the type who could actually fall for their CO. Not that Fox had the right to talk, having started dating a senator in the process of adjusting to the life of a citizen. At least he didn't have a kid. He was never going to recover from the surprise of Cody adopting a cadet.

Thanh was a good kid, just a little shy. Fox liked him, to a certain extend. The kid wasn't particularly fond of Fox but, well, it was to be expected. Cadets didn't tend to like Fox, it was one of the headcanons of Kamino.

(1. Water is wet.
2. Kaminoans are not to be trusted.
3. Cadets don't like Fox.
4. Shit gets thrown at Cody.)

"Fox?" the little clone called. Now that was unexpected. "What does the Coruscant Guard do?"

"Well, a lot of things. Why are you asking?"

"We learned about the Coruscant Guard at school and I want to know more."

Fox thought about what he could say. Cody was giving him his best keep-it-child-friendly-or-I-kill-you look and well, this wasn't Kamino so toppics like brain mass splashed across the whole crime scene probably wasn't a toppic to discuss with a kid. So Fox opted for the most child friendly definition he could think of. "Well, we protect citizens from criminals."

"I know that. And it sounds like from a book. I want a more original explanation," Thanh demanded.

"So when someone finds a decapitated body in the trash bin, they call the Coruscant guard and we find whoever did it."

"Decapitated?" Thanh looked at Fox with his huge green eyes. Fox was so dead.

"Maybe Fox could tell you about some other things the Corries do," Cody suggested.

"But does decapitated mean?" Thanh asked, his innocent gaze directed at Cody this time. Yeah, Fox was officialy dead. He could as well go and buy himself flowers for the funeral.

"You will learn that when you are older," Obi-Wan tried to save the situation.

"But I want to know what decapitated means," Thanh demanded and when no one answered him, he pouted. "If you don't tell me, I will ask someone else."

Obi-Wan sighed. "Thanh, trust me, it's nothing a child your age should know. And I'm sure Fox can tell you about a plenty of cases that will be more interesting for you."
