...-...-...-...
As soon as the helicopter touched down at the ABC military base camp, the air felt heavier with dread. Naina, though her mind was numb with grief, managed to salute the Commandant officer of the base camp. It was instinctive, her years of discipline kicking in despite the turmoil inside her. Her body moved, but her soul was hollow. Alekh, standing beside her, saluted as well. The Commandant nodded at them and said, "At ease," and that was when Alekh gently wrapped his arm around her, trying to shield her from the crushing weight of what was to come.
For Alekh, Rajveer wasn't just a brother-in-arms. He was their leader, their role model—someone who had guided the Super Six with unwavering strength. Losing him was unthinkable. It would shatter them, break the very foundation that held them together. But for Naina... for Naina, it would mean the end of everything. Alekh looked at his sister's pale, trembling face, silently praying. 'God, let him be alive. No matter in what condition, just let him be alive.' He knew that if Rajveer was truly gone, Naina wouldn't survive it. She would lose her very reason for living.
They were swiftly escorted to the accident site, the harsh reality slamming into them with every step. Naina's heart pounded louder with each passing second, her breath becoming shallow as the scene unfolded before her. The ground beneath her felt unstable, as if the earth itself had become her enemy. Her eyes were wide, searching frantically for any sign of hope. But what she saw instead made her knees go weak.
Down the cliff, police officers were supervising a team of professional climbers. The air was filled with the eerie hum of machines, ropes creaking as they were used to pull up the wreckage. Her vision blurred, but she blinked through her tears, forcing herself to stay present. She had to know. She had to see.
Lala, his voice strained with a mix of authority and desperation, approached the officer in charge. "Any news about my godson, officer?"
The officer, rigid with the burden of his own sorrow, saluted him respectfully. He shook his head, his voice barely audible over the machinery. "My deepest apologies, sir. No news as of yet."
And then, from the abyss below, they pulled up the remains of Rajveer's jeep.
It was mangled beyond recognition, burnt and twisted... a grotesque remnant of what once was. The charred metal seemed to echo the destruction that had taken place. Naina's breath hitched.
'No... no... ' She screamed in her head.
Her chest tightened, the world around her spinning. She stumbled back a step, her hand instinctively reaching out, searching for something to hold onto. The sight of the broken, scorched jeep hit her like a physical blow, knocking the wind out of her.
Her heart pounded in her ears, louder than the machinery. 'This can't be real. It can't be.' Her mind pleaded.
"From the state of the jeep, I don't think anyone could survive this accident," the officer in charge stated, his voice heavy with sympathy. Each word felt like a stone dropping into Naina's heart, rippling out waves of despair.
"What if... it isn't his jeep? What if it's someone else's?!" Naina's voice was desperate, her eyes pleading for any flicker of hope.
The officer opened his mouth to respond, but before he could, another officer emerged from the wreckage, his hands trembling as he held out a few charred papers. Naina's heart sank.
