"Pretty hard to not know who Marlowe Odessa and Tashi Duncan are."
└── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──┘2006
THE FIRST TIME Marlowe ever hit a tennis ball was at the ripe age of 4. Naturally, being the oldest child she was destined for something great but her parents thought of tennis as nothing but a hobby. Little did they know that 17-year-old Marlowe would be standing on the court today facing off against her best frenemy, Tashi Duncan.
However, before the match had started, the two girls saw each other in the hall as Marlowe was putting on her lipgloss.
"Good luck," Marlowe called, seeing Tashi a few steps down the corridor.
"You too," Tashi spoke, giving Marlowe a tight-knit smile, because both girls knew that Marlowe would need it.
The two girls had been on and off friends since 6th grade. They both initially bonded over the fact that they loved tennis but in later years when they came to face each other in matches, they would not act the part of friends.
Losing to Tashi hurt. Marlowe knew that Tashi was better than her, everybody did. Tashi was on her rise to fame and nothing was going to get in her way, not even her closest friend. So when the umpire called 30 - 40 to Tashi from his chair, Marlowe knew she was screwed.
Grunts and the whooshing of rackets were heard throughout the court as the ball flew to each of the girl's sides of the net. Until Marlowe hit too soft against Tashi's hard forehand and boom. She lost the game. The tennis ball hit the net and, almost as if in slow motion, came rolling back to Marlowe's feet.
The girl looked up at the shout of Tashi's victory. Her hoarse scream was heard throughout the multiple courts, without a doubt.
Marlowe looked up from the now stationary ball to meet Tashi's eyes.
"You're gonna come tonight, right?" Tashi questioned when both came to meet at the net, speaking about her victory party that would be held later that night. "It could be fun."
"I'm not going unless my mom forces me to, and knowing her, she probably will." Marlowe shrugs as both girls shake hands.
Unbeknownst to the girls, there were two boys up in the stands peering curiously at the girls talking. One blonde and one brunette, much like the girl's duo.
