"I DO NOT WANT YOU TO GO!!" A small raven-haired five-year-old boy whined as he clung onto his adopted father's leg as tight as his small arms could. Len grimaced at the feeling of his son's snotty nose rubbing against his leg, he gently pries him off of him and squatted to get to his level. His pig ears were flat on his head as he looked up at him with the most heartbreaking expression that made Len's heartache.
"Come on, Adam. You have to be strong and behave," Len encouraged as he started to clean his face with his hands. "Besides you have Izekiel."
"HE IS MEAN!" Adam protested. A snort in the corner of the room reminded Len that the man in question was still there and awake. Len looked over at the panther in his animal form laying near the wall.
"Is that true? You have been picking at my precious little piglet?" Len teased, causing Izekiel to roll his eyes.
"Please, if anything he has been mean to me."
Adam glared at him, but it did not give the desired effect thanks to his beet-red face and puffy eyes. "I am not mean!! Daddy, he is lying about me!!"
"Yes, yes. I know." Len cooed, calming Adam's nerves. "How about next time you come with me and Yves to do something cool?"
"Really?" Adam perked up and tackled his father with a hug. "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!"
Adam ran over towards Izekiel and started to babble into his ear about the news he received as if the man had never been there.
"Len, calm your cub down." Izekiel complained as he tried to bury his ears with his paws in an attempt to keep the ringing down.
"You have it handled; I have to go before Yves gets angry at me again." Len replied as he gave him the thumbs up as encouragement before leaving his distressed colleague to handle his son.
Len hummed a small tune to himself as he took in the peaceful atmosphere he managed to keep running after the death of the man he loved. 'I wonder what it would be like if Allen was still around. Would he be proud of what I have done? Will he be able to understand?'
Guilt and shame weigh down on him because he knows exactly what the answer is.
"DAD!"
Yves' yelling brought Len out of his thoughts, the negative feelings he had were washed away at the sight of his adorable son scowling at him. The bunny was surrounded by ten of the beastmen he selected to join them on his newest conquest.
"Yves! You look ready to take on the world." Len complimented cheerfully causing Yves' anger to melt into one of smugness.
"This will be the first raid I am allowed to take control of," Yves stated, huffing out his chest in pride. "This whole month I have been studying and memorizing the routes the cow village takes."
