i do not own the keeper of the lost cities series, shannon messenger does. i also do not own the illustration used in the cover, banner, or other images, nor do i own any other images that were used in the making of the cover, banner, or other promotional graphics.

canon characters will likely be somewhat out of character because i am terrible at literary imitation, and most of the dialogue and events will be ripped straight out of the book.

i kind of hate how so many people had crushes on sophie and also i think the sophie/keefe and sophie/fitz pairings were weird and i dislike the romance in these stories—you're saving the world, finish doing that before you waste time on romance. at the moment, i'm iffy about the inclusion of the romantic relationships between the characters, because they are, like, way too young to be thinking seriously about that sort of thing. also, there is an at least one year age gap between each of the pairings and that's weird for the age that they are supposed to be—it's a lot more normal when you aren't in what i suppose the high school equivalent is and you're in college, which is another point for why i think the romance kicks in way too early.

beguilers! there is only one! and as far as i've read, she really doesn't use her ability all that often because she is a (mostly) law-abiding citizen! so i am making things up as i go!

i do not have the dedication to go to the irl places mentioned in the books and walk/run the paths the character takes (things messenger mentions doing in the annotated edition of book one). i also am only midway through neverseen at the writing of this fic (now starting lodestar a few hours later—i'm a fast reader). but i have read spoilers and know the bare bones of what happens in future books.

i know the face claim looks nothing like brant or the other vackers, but it is mentioned that the vackers have all sorts of different colorings and body types/shapes, so it should be fine.

apparently people don't like alden, although i don't know why yet. for the most part, i will be going off of what is either explicitly stated in the book, or what is implied/in some cases believed by many fans. so, i likely will not be overly critical towards any characters unless i'm really personally biased against that character.

after looking more carefully through some kotlc fics on wattpad (and a few on ao3), it seems like other people have already had similar ideas to this, namely "Not so perfect after all (KOTLC)" by BalladLovesBroadway/@Rachel Dare, one of very few fics on wattpad with the tag of "brantalger," which gives brant a sister who's in the black swan. however, basic premises aside, i don't believe the fics are all that similar (and there are probably thousands of [insert canon character] sibling fics out there), so i am going to be continuing with this fic.

NOTES

i really do not feel like adding to the character intro because i'm lazy.

neither arwen nor brandon will be a part of the black swan or the neverseen—they are simply subpar parents. they do not discover eulalie's involvement with the black swan, either—with their occupations and tendency to value prestige, they do not spend much time with eulalie and after being more hands-on with brant (and that failing in their eyes), they decided to be more hands-off with eulalie.

mr. forkle is aware of eulalie's true identity, but none of the other members of the black swan are aware that hypnotic is younger than she seems, in the beginning of the series.
