Chapter 2

Y/N POV

As I'm rounding the corner during my patrol, I'm lost in thought about Lucy's impending marriage, im surprised when I see Norm out of his work station, and him nervously fidgeting around as he leans against the wall as he notices your melancholy behavior

Norm's voice quivers slightly as he speaks, betraying his own uncertainty

Norm: "Uh, hey there Y/N. Everything alright? You uh seem to have something preoccupying your mind." He asked wondering why the always happy vault dweller was feeling down

I manage to give him a weak smile, although it doesn't reach my eyes

Y/N: "Heyo Norm. Yeah, just uhh..... processing some news" I mumbled out

Norm's expression soften as he knew what was eating at me, and his attempt at confidence is undermined by his own nervousness

Norm: "It's the Lucy thing isn't it? Listen Y/N, tough break buddy but you gotta be strong, okay?" He empathized

Y/N: "Yeah Yeah I know.... It's just rough, I don't know if I should tell her my feelings before her wedding it could ruin our friendship" I mumbled out

Norm places a reassuring hand on my shoulder, his voice gaining a touch of confidence.

Norm: "listen Y/N, I understand but you can't let this fear hold you back, you got to follow your heart no matter what" he said confidently

I look up at Norm, meeting his gaze with a mixture of gratitude and uncertainty

Y/N: "Yeah I hear you norm and I appreciate it, it's kinda hard what the right choice is to make right now"

Norm: "Yeah I understand, but sometimes you've gotta trust yourself, y'know? And hey, just letting you know I'm always rooting for you and Lucy" he said with a smile on his face

I give Norm a quick hug to show my appreciation and I continue with my patrol around the vault, with Norm's words of encouragement weighing on my mind, I feel a glimmer of hope that maybe everything will turn out just fine

After I finished my patrol schedule, the Vault is buzzing with anticipation for Lucy's wedding. But despite the festive atmosphere, I find myself feeling a sense of melancholy as I watch Lucy getting ready for her wedding, my heart weighs heavy with unspoken words and unresolved feelings as we wait for the gate keeper to open the door connecting vault 33 to 32.

Seeking solace in Lucy's presence, I find her amiss, the bustling activity with my heart how was anticipation and apprehension. I walk up to Lucy in hopes of talking to her one more time before the vault door opens

Y/N: "Lucy can we talk for a bit" I said with a bit of a serious tone

Lucy turns to me, her eyes flickering with a bit of curiosity and uncertainty

Lucy: "Of course Y/N! What did you want to talking about?" She asked curiosity

Taking a deep breath, I struggle to find the right words, knowing the moment I've always been dreading has arrived

Y/N: "I wanted to tell you that uh you matter a lot to me, and I've always wanted to tell you how I felt but I was scared of losing our friendship. But after you got accepted to marry someone from Vault 32 I can't shake the thought of losing you to someone else."

Lucy's expression softens, a flicker of emotions crossing her features as she listen to Y/N's confession. But before he can continue, she gently interrupts him, her own voice tinged with sadness and cracking a bit

Lucy: "Y/N" she stated softly " I want to tell you for so long..... and I feel the same way but it's too late for us, I can't back out now" she remarked sadly

The weight of Lucy words hit me like a ton of bricks, the realization that we both had feelings for each other, but were too scared to express it left a bitter taste in my mouth

Before I can even respond, the sounds of the vault door opening, signaling the starting of the ceremony. With a heavy heart I offer Lucy a nod of understanding masking my inner turmoil as Lucy got ready to meet her husband from vault 32 but before she can leave she gives me a quick peck on the cheek and smiles at me

The touch of her kiss left me with the whirlwind of conflicting emotions - a bittersweet reminder of the love we shared for one another can never fully be embraced, with a resigned sigh I give myself two quick soft slaps to my face to ready myself for the wedding ceremony.

Thats the end of this chapter, finally freeing myself from the sad Y/N part of the story. Me personally I think Y/N a bit too much of a soy boy but please let me know your thoughts, till next time!
