The car trailed behind us the whole time, and by the time we got there, it was 1:25. I got out of the car, paying and thanking the man, before hurrying into the park. The men park and trail behind me. I hurry around a corner and touch Harley, turning into a bird holding a stick. Harley was trained to be able to handle my abilities, often being turned into something himself. We flew up to a tree, and watched the men turn the corner and look around in confusion. After a few moments, they turn around and head back to their car. I sigh in relief and fly away to find my mother. I sit in a tree above our meeting spot, and wait.
A few moments later, I see a woman with long blonde hair walk towards the meeting spot and stand there, waiting. I fly down to her and twist back into myself and Harley, running up and hugging her.
"Mother!" I smiled. I grabbed her shoulders and pulled her back, looking at her appearance. The dress she wore had pearls on the mesh sleeves, and the blue color of it stood out on her dark tan skin.
"Siren" she chuckled, also looking at my appearance. She glared at my tattoos, never liking that I was inked. But I was like my father in that way, I loved to rebel. My newest tattoo was a red scaled, white maned Chinese dragon that coiled up my arm from my elbow, to circling around my shoulder, and facing my collar bone. There were a few flowers on my other arm. My other tattoos were red roses on my right thigh, and a black rose on my hand. Everything was clean, and blended together well. Talking with my mom, she found out about the men trailing me, and Patrick. She also found out more information about me and my father's fight, and my scholarship to Oxford. Before we parted, it seemed harder than normal. I'd miss her on her next trip.
The next morning when I woke up, it was around 9. A decent time, but still disappointing. Digging around my wardrobe yet again, I ended up wearing navy blue Nike parachute pants, with a white and blue parachute jacket over a white turtleneck long sleeve. The star necklace that I wore around my neck hung low and the white converse I wore sparkled in the sunlight. By the time I finished getting ready, it was already 10:30. Leashing Harley, I get a taxi and head over to BrewDog for brunch. I'm hopeful the boy from yesterday would be there, but at the same time I hope he got to stay home and sleep. Arriving there, I hurry into the building, worried that I was gonna be trailed again. The minute I stepped inside, I was greeted by Sophia's bright smile, and the empty room of BrewDog. Surprising I was the only one there.
"Hello love" I greeted, smiling back at her. I looked around, not seeing Patrick.
"Same seat as yesterday, yeah?" She asked
I nodded and followed her to the couch I had been sitting at yesterday.
"What would you like today?" She questioned, motioning towards her iPad.
"Just a coffee and an omelet" I replied, petting Harley. She nodded and walked away, going into the staff room. A few moments later, she walked back out and approached me.
"The boy that you hugged yesterday, Patrick, would you mind if I brought him over to you? He's kinda just sitting there in the kitchen with his hands covering his face" she mumbled, motioning towards the staff room. I nodded with a solemn face and waited patiently as she walked back into the staff room.
Walking back out of the staff room, Patrick trailed behind Sophia, still looking distraught. She sat him down next to me, like a little kid. I was able to get a good look at him now. His eyes were a dark brown, and his messy hair was a light blonde. He wore black eyeshadow under his eyes, giving him a point on both sides of his eyes. He clothed himself in long light blue baggy pants, and a baggy long sleeve shirt under his BrewDog shirt. He was about 4-5 inches taller than me, but it was hard to tell with him slouching to lay his face in his hands. Sophia walked away, having to now do her duties plus Patrick's.
"I heard your name was Siren," he mumbled from his place in his hands, "I like that"
"I'm glad you like it," I smiled softly, "would you care to tell me what emotion you're feeling?"
"I don't know," he whispered, looking at me and starting to tear up, "maybe sadness?"
"What happened to make you this way?" I asked softly, concerned.
He hesitated, turning to look at the floor, "my mom passed away a week ago, and we were close because my dad died when I was 2." His tears were moving quicker and he moved towards me, allowing me to wrap him in a hug.
"It will be okay" I whispered, waiting for him to stop crying. Once he stopped crying, I decided it was best to ask, "you're only 18 right? How are you surviving?"
"I'm not really," he informed me, messing with the thread coming off his pants, "my boss lets me do full time, and often lets me eat here for free now, but I'm still short on rent and my parents cut off the rest of my family a while ago so I have no one to help me"
"Hey, I have enough to go around. Why don't I give you my number and if you need anything, I'll help instantly. I'll even help with the rent if you'd like" I put forth, smiling softly and giving him a soft squeeze on the shoulder.
His eyes widened, "really?".
I nodded, smiling. Sophia walked over to me, "Someone's asking for you at the front"
My heart caught in my throat, "Harley go sniff" I ordered, sending Harley around the corner. A few moments later, he walked back around the corner and sat down, wagging his short tail. I took a deep breath and let it out. It was someone we knew. I gave Patrick my number and stood up.
"Heads up, the guy at the front waiting for you is honestly kinda hot" she teased, prodding me in the shoulder. Walking around the corner, I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Dad?!" I yelped, holding Harley's leash tightly. Sophia's eyes widened and she shuffled away, realizing she called my dad hot. His eyes trailed towards me, piercing into my soul. His eyes were like mine, intense but could be kind if needed. I took more after my dad than my mother, with the red highlights in my hair and the dark ravens feather color coming from him. I got his semi-pale skin and his tall height as well.
"Siren" he smiled, showing off the weirdly sharp canine teeth we have, "we have a work thing we must attend"
I hissed, my eyes loosing any of the sweetness they had before, "I told you I don't want to be involved in that shit anymore"
"This one's important, if you're not there, my company might be sold because they think I'm lying about having an heir." He replied, rolling his eyes. My dad looked like he was 20, as did my mom. They never looked like they aged. It was odd. He rolled up the sleeves of the black button up he was wearing. "Please, Siren, all you have to do is sit in that meeting and wear a suit"
I sighed. I didn't want to loose the money either, but my father was a crime lord. I rolled my eyes and motioned towards the door. My father happily walked out the door, and I trailed behind him. We stopped at my house so I could change. I was not going to wear a suit. I threw on some silver hoops, took off all my other jewelry and put two chain necklaces on. I wore a mesh long sleeve under the black T-shirt. I threw on an unbuttoned black button up T-shirt over both of them, and some black pants plus a belt. The workers must wear black. Getting back in the car, my dad looked at me in annoyance, but didn't say anything about my outfit. Harley and Maze, my dad's dog, sat in the backseat, watching the windows. I felt my phone vibrate.
Unknown Number
Unknown number: I didn't get to tell you earlier that I think you're very pretty. Thank you for helping me.
Me: Thank you <3
You changed "Unknown Number"
to "Patrick<3"
I hid my phone quickly before my father saw, hiding my face in my hands to stop the blushing.
