KODI WAS DEEP INTO CONVERSATION WITH VERONICA ON THE PHONE...

"Me own mother, fuckin' competin' against me... next door," Veronica complained.

"That sucks," Kodi responded automatically.

Veronica continued to vent, her frustration evident in her voice. "Sucks, it more sucks. When you comin' back to Chatsworth?"

"It's only been three day, Vee," Kodi reasoned.

"Three days is too much, in my eyes... could you maybe come now and help us out?" Veronica pleaded.

Kodi glanced at Malakai, who was listening intently. She sighed.

"It'll take us at least ten..." She paused, looking at Malakai again. "Okay, maybe not ten, probably thirteen, amount of times I go pee"

Veronica's voice came through the phone, laced with exasperation. "Well turn the fuckin' around, you can make it."

"I love you, Vee, bye," Kodi said quickly, ending the call before Veronica could protest.

'l"What's this about a garden?" Malakai asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.

"Oh, some competition with the estate, a year free of rent," Kodi explained.

"Such bollocks," Malakai snorted. "Probably a scam to clean up the fuckin' estate council houses, because they can't be arsed to do it."

"It sounds legit," Kodi said, trying to sound optimistic.

"It also sounded legit when they said they'll give us new furniture when Mandy and me burnt the house down," Malakai replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Did they? No! There fucks ups."

"Yes, ahh... Kai," Kodi said, looking at him awkwardly.

"Will stop at the nearest shop," Malakai said, his voice heavy with resignation.

'/"Thank you, love you," Kodi said, pecking him on the cheek.

"You better, we haven't even got to the fuckin' destination yet because of your fuckin' peeing," Malakai said, his voice laced with mock frustration.

"Blame baby, it's her fault," Kodi said, feigning innocence.

"Her? Did ti find out the sex?" Malakai asked, his tone curious.

"No, I just know it's a girl," Kodi said confidently.

"And what if it's a boy?" Malakai asked, a hint of disbelief in his voice.

"Malakai, I need to pee, stop the car," Kodi said, her voice taking on a more urgent tone.

"There's a shop around this corner, hold it," Malakai replied, trying to maintain his patience.

"Dont tell a pregnant woman to hold her pee... I-" Kodi began to protest.

"Just get out of the car, Kodi," Malakai said, sighing. Kodi opened the door and jumped out, running into the shop.

"Can I use your loo?" she asked the clerk at the counter.

"its for Customers only" the clerk replied, his voice monotonous.

Kodi rolled her eyes. "I'll take this chocolate bar and that man outside will pay for it, now can I go?"

The clerk nodded slowly. "Yes, it's down to your right."

••

KODI'S EYES WIDE WITH FEAR...
Malakai, his voice cool and collected, scanned the rearview mirror.

"Feds are on our bloody tail," Malakai muttered.

Kodi's knuckles turned white. "What do we do, Mal?"

"Buckle up, love, and drive" Malakai replied, a sinister grin spreading across his face. He reached over and slammed on the gas, sending the car hurtling down the road.

Malakai's driving was a blur of speed and reckless abandon. He narrowly missed oncoming vehicles, leaving trails of smoke and discarded tires in their wake. Kodi's heart pounded in her chest as they dodged police roadblocks and outmaneuvered the pursuing squad car.

Suddenly, Malakai shouted, "Now!"

He swerved sharply, executed a hairpin turn, and pulled into a side street. Kodi watched in amazement as the police car roared past them, oblivious to their whereabouts. They pulled into an abandoned warehouse and came to a grinding halt. Malakai jumped out and sprinted to the driver's seat.

"Ready, love?" he said, his eyes glinting with mischief. Malakai put the car into gear and roared out of the warehouse. With Kodi grinning beside him, he sped up and down the narrow roads, weaving around traffic like a seasoned racer. They left the police in their dust, their laughter echoing..

••

Kodi's heart raced as she looked up at Malakai, their bodies still tangled together in the driver's seat, and laughter filled the air at the thought of escaping "We're like Bonnie and Clyde, Kai," she said, a wild glint in her eye... But Malakai didn't seem as thrilled by their escapades as Kodi did.

"I don't like this... Kodi," he said, looking at her with concern.. Before Kodi could respond, she kissed him which lead to a heated situation..
In slid her underwear aside enough for him to have access.. but the moment was interpreted then they heard the sirens of a police car approaching. They looked up and saw the flashing lights reflected in the rearview mirror.

"Fuck," she muttered... But Malakai didn't seem panicked. He gently moved Kodi off his lap and onto the passenger seat, then pulled up his pants and took over the wheel.
He stepped on the gas, speeding down the roads and weaving through traffic. Kodi held on tight, her heart pounding in her chest.

She's never been in a car chase, yes she's stolen and Tony has caught her many times and been in trouble with he law, but this... Getting chased, she's only seen in movies.. it was happening! And this was loving every minute.. She looked up at Malakai and smiles..

Trust, safe and love..

Trust, she trusted him, even though he was getting her into the scene of crimes.

Safe, whatever situation she was in, she felt safe in his arms and with him. .

Kodi... Now Maguire.. she liked the
sound of that, loves Malakai...

His love was everything! He was her everything..

Malakai seemed to know what he was doing. He expertly navigated the car through the streets of Chatsworth, avoiding obstacles and staying one step ahead of the cops.

Eventually, they lost the police and pulled into a dark alleyway. Malakai turned to Kodi, his eyes filled with a mixture of fear and love. "I love you, Kodi Maguire," he said, pulling her in close.

Kodi melted into his embrace, feeling the weight of the past few days finally lifted off her shoulders. "And I love you," she whispered, pressing her lips to his. They stayed there for a few moments, lost in their love for each other.

But eventually, they had to face the reality of their situation. Malakai had promised to himself that he'll talk to father and leave the crime life behind, for the sake of Kodi and their unborn child... He just didn't know how?

Malakai looks at Kodi "i don't want this life for you, Kods" He said wrapping his arms around her waist
She bites her lips "i don't want to ruin you, I feel like that's exactly what I'm doing?"

"then ruin me" she says whispering into his ear, which makes him shiver

Malakai looking into her eyes. "You and our baby are all that matter to me now."

Kodi nodded "i know and I love for that I do, but..-" he cuts her off

"You are what matters, and I'll do anything to protect that" Kodi smiled, He leaned in for another kiss. And in that moment, it was just the two of them, lost in their love for each other and the promise of a new life together...
