It was my 21st birthday. I woke up, smiling from ear to ear as I shot out of bed. I got dressed into my favourite outfit (a hoodie that colby got me and some skinny jeans) before heading downstairs.
"Good morning!" I said joyfully, grinning widely. I got no response. I looked around the whole house and saw that no one was home. Oh. I just brushed it off. I went to the fridge to make some food, seeing a note on the door.
Elton hit 1 mill so we went out to celebrate. We would of invited you but didn't want to disturb your sleep. Should be back around 10pm. Sorry about leaving you! We left about 20 dollars on the side as we felt bad, go get yourself something!

So I'm alone. Did nobody even remember? A felt a singular tear drop down my face, flowing down my neck before I wiped it away. I pulled out my phone. No text messages from anyone but my family.

I smiled.
'I'm on my way to Kansas right now. Can't wait xx'
I headed upstairs to pack a bag before writing a note on the back of the paper they used for their note.
I've gone to Kansas for a few days. Its my birthday silly! I can't believe you guys forgot. Congrats Elton by the way! See you guys soon.

I placed the note back on the fridge before going to leave the house. I got in my car, tears streaming down my face at the thought of my forgotten birthday.
COLBY
I was so excited to suprise Sam. I felt awful for leaving him alone on his birthday but it would all be worth it. We'd been dating for 3 years and I've decided I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I love him to bits. We finally got back home after a long day of planning to see that Sam's car wasn't in the drive. Maybe he went to the store? I tried calling him but it went straight to voicemail. I began to feel really guilty. I actually did leave him alone on his 21st birthday.
"Wheres Sam?" Elton says, walking into the house with Sam's cake. Corey walks past us and straight to the fridge. He pulls out a lemonade, closing the door before pausing. He places his lemonade on the side and take a peice of paper off the fridge.
"Whats that?" I ask, approaching him.
"Oh shit" he says, handing me the note. I read it quickly as a big wave of guilt washes over me. I grabbed my car keys and got in my car, beginning my drive to Kansas.
I'm sorry Sam.
SAM
"Hi dear! Lovely to see you, happy birthday!" My mom said, hugging me as I entered the house.
"Hi ma" I say, hugging her back before kissing her cheek politely as we pull away.
"You always spend your birthday in LA with yours friends?" She questions why I'm here.
"They forgot ma" I said, trying to hold back the tears that were forming in my eyes.
"Oh dear" she hugs me again, kissing my head softly before stepping back. "It's okay! We can celebrate together like old times!" Yeah, like old times, when no one forgot my birthday. "Sam!" My mum said loudly, waking me up from my trance.
"Sorry, what did you say?" I ask her, scratching the back of my head.
"What would you like to do?" She repeats.
"I'm not sure, nothing big since it clearly not that important." I tell her, pecking the skin off of my fingers. She moves my hands down with hers.
"Samuel John Golbach! Your birthday is so important! Bonus, its your 21st! How about I yet some drinks and we can have a chat, catchup and and stuff?" She suggests. I chuckle at her response, nodding at her idea. "Thank you Ma"
COLBY
After a few hours, I finally turned up to Kansas. By now, it was the next day. I banged on Sam's door, eagerly waiting for an answer. He opened the door and I wrapped my arms around him immediately, not saying a word.
"I'm so sorry my love! I promise we didn't forget! We had a suprise for you!" I was close to tears. He slowly wrapped his arms around me, rubbing my back gently.
"Who is it dear?" Sam's mum walks into the room, wine glass in hand. We pulled away from the hug, Sam's face red and wet with tears. "Oh I'll leave you two be" she smiles and winks at me before walking away. She was fully aware of the suprise.
"I really though you forgot" he cried, wiping his eyes with his sweater paws.
"I would never forget baby!" I put my hands on his waist and pull him into my body. "I love you too much" I kissed him softly, pulling him in closer and pulling away from his lips to hug him.
"Can we go home?" He asks, kissing my cheek sweetly.
"Of course my love" I responded as Sam's mom walked back into the room with his bag.
"Bye ma, thank you for everything" Sam said, hugging his mum goodbye.
"Goodbye my dear" she said, kissing his head, before handing him his stuff.
"Bye Cindy!" I waved her goodbye before taking Sam's hand in mine and leaving the house.
"I have a suprise" I said, squeezing Sam's thigh delicately. We had been driving for about 2 hours and the sun was now rising, making the sky look beautiful.
"Hm? You do?" He placed his hand on mine, rubbing it gently.
"I do" I smiled, driving off of the highway.
"Where are we going?" He asks, confused by my change of route.
"You'll see" I chuckled. We drove for another 10 minutes before I stopped the car and blind folded Sam. My friends pulled up beside me quietly; I had texted them when Sam was saying goodbye to his mom.
"Colby? I'm scared-" he giggled as I helped him out of the car. I just kept my mouth shut, trying to mask my nervousness.
SAM
I was blindfolded at helped out of the car, still unaware of where I was. I was guided somewhere before my blindfold was taken off.
"Oh my gosh! This is beautiful" I was standing on a beach during sunrise, in a heart made out of lit candles and rose petals. Very romantic. I giggled to myself at the thought.
"Sam?" He took my hands in his. "I've known you since we were 14. You've helped me through everything and without you I wouldn't even be here today. You were my first ever real friend. You made me the man I am today. All the time we spent at the mall, trying to talk to girls, when really, in the future, I would be down on one knee for you. You are so special to me Sam and I cant express how grateful I am to have you in my life. Yes we have had our ups and downs but that's what makes our relationship so special, being able to overcome anything that happens between us. What happened within the last 12 hours terrified me. I thought I was going to lose you. I love you more than anything and I want to spend the rest of my life with you" he let go of my hands, which were now brought up to my face, trying to hide my tears, and got down on one knee. "Sam Golbach, will you make me the luckiest man alive and marry me?" He opened a small box, revealing the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen. I had no words. I just sobbed from happiness and nodded my head rapidly. He stood up and took one hand off my face, sliding the ring onto my finger before picking me up and swinging me around. We both laughed in happiness and joy as the spinning came to a halt and I was placed back onto the ground. His hands were brought to my waist and my arms were wrapped around his neck as he leaned in to passionately kiss me. He pulled away, leaning his forehead against mine. "I love you so fucking much" he cried, smiling through the tears.
"I love you more" I sobbed, kissing him again. I suddenly jumped at the sounds of clapping and cheering.
"YESSSSSSS!!" Jake cheered as I saw all of our friends running up to us.
"God dangit you scared me" I giggled, wiping my tears with my sleeve.
"So when's the wedding?" Corey winked. We all burst out into laughter before sharing lots of hugs with everyone. I couldn't wait to marry this man.
