Ben decided to move forward with his coronation celebration, he said that persevering against Maleficent was cause for extra celebration.

Persephone found herself admiring the celebration from the edge of the gardens where it was held, perched on a stone wall with a glass of punch.

It was like everyone had simply breezed past the days events. They were smiling, dancing, even singing. Even Audrey of all people could be seen dancing with Jay. As though the ferocity towards the VKs was a distant memory.

The blonde twin didn't trust it.

Did one good deed, really right every wrong in these people's eyes?

Ben approached, pulling her from her thoughts.

"Hey."

He greeted, smiling, seeming a bit breathless from the party.

"Why aren't you celebrating? Aren't you glad everything turned out okay?"

She pressed her lips together, searching for the right words.

"I am glad Ben, and I'm really happy for you, you'll make an amazing king. It's just been a long day I guess, I spent most of it in a crystal screaming my head off, and assaulting the walls."

She glanced at her aching hands, wincing. They were bruised, and her knuckles were split.

"Oh my gods, you were in there all day?"

The new king grasped her hands, examining the damage.

Her only response was a tight nod.

He kissed her knuckles, causing her to blush. Only Ben could do that to her. And it irked her. She'd met attractive, sexy, much more mature men before. And she'd stayed plenty cool. Something about Ben's caught her off guard. He had an innocent demeanor, but there was a fire in his eyes.

She looked back to the party, spotting Mal happily dancing with Evie.

Ben followed her gaze.

"Are you still angry with her?"

That brought a grimace to her face. Here she goes again, being vulnerable with him.

"I don't know if angry is the word. Hurt I guess? I told her all this time that she could think for herself, that she didn't need Maleficents approval to be something. She never listened. And I'm her sister. Then you come along and give her a charming smile and that's enough? It stings. She's head over heels for you mate."

She'd been watching her sister as she spoke, and she glanced back at him to see a cheeky smile, and a glimmer in his eye.

"You think my smile is charming?"

That earned him a scoff, and a shove, as she fought a smile.

"I hope she's not too hurt I don't feel the same way, I've got my eye on someone else."

Persephones stomach dropped.

"Ben, you said you wouldn't go back to Audrey."

She reminded him, fearful for his sanity.

He turned red and spluttered.

"I-wha- No!!"

He managed, before seeming guilty for his outburst.

"Oh- good. Cuz that one's batshit."

Ben nodded regrettably.

"Hey, do you wanna dance?"

The words flew from her lips before she thought about, and she instantly feared he'd turn her down. She didn't want him thinking she'd gone obsessing over him like her sister.

Thankfully he smiled brightly.

"Yeah! Come on let's go."

He took her by her hips, swinging her down from the wall, and led the way to the dance floor.

It was hard for her to let him lead, she didn't like relinquishing control. But he was gentle, and she relaxed fairly quickly.

The upbeat song playing ended, and changed to a slower, softer song.

Thinking their dance was over, she went to pull away, but instead he pulled her closer. She fought off blushing again, as his toned body pressed against hers. They slow danced, and she forced herself not to glance around at who could be watching. Why had she wanted to dance in a crowd of people again?

Their dance ended all too soon, and Ben was pulled away by his parents to make small talk with some dignitaries. And she found herself back on the wall, at the edge of things, where she belonged.

And that is the end of part 1! But of a slowburn guys, sorry about that. I'll be writing chapters that take place between the 1st and second movie, where the love story will really pick up. I hope you guys like it so far, let me know in the comments.
