CHAPTER 23
(🌷)
mavis santos is not in love. she's never been in love. being in love was truly frightening because in order to be in love, you have to give yourself and everything into that person. trust them fully with your life and heart.mavis has been loved. she has loved. she can count the number of times she's truly loved someone on one hand. she can also count the number of times that love was shattered on the same hand. and, it's not that the person did something to her to shatter that love, no, it was the universe. the universe took that love away. maybe she didn't deserve it. but she knows they didn't either.
when it comes to being in love, she doesn't even know where to start. god, being in love just seems like the end of the world. if mavis was ever in love, she wouldn't realize it. she doesn't know what proper love feels like.
a honk sounds outside of her house and mavis snaps back to reality, grabbing her school bag. her keys jingle against each other as she locks the door before taking quick little steps to the van.
"hey, matty b." she quickly does her handshake with the boy leaning against the front of the car.
"sorry about the honk, that was nick, he was getting impatient." matt shoots a glare in nick's direction. mavis assumes that nick flips him off as matt returns it.
"no hi for me?" chris pouts, putting his head through the window.
mavis grins at the overgrown toddler and doesn't hesitate, rubbing her hand over his hair, messing it up slightly. he scowls, patting down his hair. "morning, sunshine."
