mavis rolls over in her sleep for the ninety-seventh time that night and makes a noise of discomfort as she wiggles around under the blanket. the whole group was spending the night in her living room and she was sharing a blanket with asher, who was currently sound asleep. in fact, everyone seemed to be except for her. even faith and rosalie looked comfortable where they were piled on top of each other on the couch.

she closed her eyes and attempted to count the stupid fucking sheep. after about ten minutes of that, mavis let out a frustrated grumble as her mind continued to run wild. she didn't even feel the tiniest bit sleepy.

mavis sat up as quietly as she could and tip-toed her way into the kitchen.

the fridge light poured over her as she made herself a cold glass of water and stared at the countertop in the dark.

kaylee's words came flooding back to her and the memory of drew's hands on her skin sent chills down her spine. drew was just going out of his way to make her life completely miserable, wasn't he? even when she was breaking up with him, he didn't try to make the situation any better, but instead completely broke down her self-confidence with words.

you think you'll ever find somebody greater than me?

you were always the second choice.

you'll never be enough.

your own family doesn't even want you.

tears pricked in the corner of her eyes and she cradled her chin in her hands as she fought back the tears. she tells herself over and over again that it's not true. none of it is true. but really, it is.
