Everyone turned back to watch what would happen between glances at Lan Xichen as if he would magically get away if they weren't looking at him.

On the last day of the conference, Wei Wuxian was sitting in one of the courtyards getting some air from all the political dribble he was being subjected to. Although he was more than happy to support his husband, he had always hated politics. As a child who grew up on the streets before becoming a fugitive cultivator protecting innocents, politics had only ever harmed him. No one was willing to listen to a nobody no matter how powerful he was. Back then he didn't know he was Baoshan Sanren's grandson. If you are not born from the main gentry then you are too low-born to have a brain to those people. He sat on a bench and closed his eyes trying to calm the anger the memories evoked. Letting the light breeze and warm sunlight wash over him was helping his chaotic thoughts to settle.

The Lans looked startled at finding out their Madam had grown on the streets. They looked at Baoshan to figure out why he had grown up like that. Baoshan sighed knowing there was no getting out of the conversation. "You have to understand gods don't often have children and when we do they are born extremely powerful. So powerful in fact that they are fated to become gods once they reach a certain age. It is normal for other gods to murder those children. My daughter was killed while she was weak during her second pregnancy. A-Ying had been hidden away luckily but if I claimed him he would have never reached adulthood even if he wasn't meant to be a god. Everything my grandson gained power, godhood, morals, intelligence, etc. was gained by his own hard work without intervention. I wasn't even the one that selected him for godhood it was Wen Rouhan, Zewu-Jun, Hanguang-Jun, Headshaker, and The Doctor."

Lan Wangji couldn't help but feel proud of his would-be mate. It was also reassuring that he had nominated him to become a god as well. This meant that he at least knew of Wei Wuxian in his other life as a god. The Lans also felt proud to have such a Madam their clan was known not to deferenciate people based on their birth but it was amazing to see someone who had everything stacked against them succeed. Lan Jingy was still writing muttering about writing a book on their amazing Madam so the world would be jealous. Lan Sizhui sweat dropped at his friend's ridiculousness.

A sudden shadow falling over him made him open his eyes in annoyance. He could tell it wasn't his beloved since there was no soothing sandalwood scent. Lan Xichen's smiling face hovered less than five inches away from his making his recent calm scatter.

Lan Wangji growled making almost everyone coward. he was one of the strongest alphas in the cultivation world. Lan Xichen prayed his future self had not done anything too stupid.

" Excuse me brother-in-law, but I am a married omega. You are too close to be considered respectful to my husband and yours. So would you kindly back away to a more normal speaking distance." Lan Wangji had been coming to check on Wei Wuxian. Lanling was a dangerous place for women and omegas with Jin Guangshan's bigotry. The sect leader and closest disciples were known to treat omegas as property without choice.

Lan Wangji walked in to see the closeness between his brother and husband freezing where he stood. His heart started hammering in his chest like it was trying to escape his ribs. Would his brother try to take what was his again? Why was he even worried Wei Wuxian was just a contract? Plus wasn't that hypocritical to call Wei Wuxian his when he was disgusted with the way other alphas thought of omegas as property? Hadn't he just done the same? It still hurt almost physically for some unknown reason mixing with his shame. He hid behind the bushes near them to listen in, promising to write lines later as punishment for eavesdropping. The bitter feeling in his chest made him excuse the rules he was breaking.
