The morning sun greeted Max and Lucas early in the morning. It was around 9:30, and Max was still out like a light. Lucas took the moments of silence he had with Max lying on his chest to admire her beauty.
Her fiery red hair, her creamy pale skin, and her crystal blue eyes. The glowing tresses that flowed down her shoulders in two messy braids captured Lucas's eyes more than anything. It was his favorite thing about her, and the first thing he noticed when he had met the girl. Her skin was a matching although opposite contrast to his, hers was white as snow, his dark as night. But they still blended perfectly together. And her eyes. Oh how Lucas adored her eyes. When Lucas looked into those blue orbs he found it so hard to take his attention away from them. It was almost like they put him in a trance.
Still gazing over her, Lucas's alarm clock began to ring on his dresser.
"Shit," He muttered under his breath as he got up to go turn off the alarm clock. In doing so, he had woken up Max. "Sorry."
"It's fine, we should probably go down soon anyways," Max groaned as her eyes fluttered open. She rubbed them to adjust to the light, and Lucas sat back on the bed next to her. For a minute, the boy was sucked into the void that he entered when looking into the two beautiful circles on Max's face. "Why are you staring at me, stalker?"
Lucas was now back in the real world. He turned his head to the floor, laughed at Max's witty comment and grabbed his tshirt. "I'm gonna change in the bathroom, I'll meet you downstairs, 'kay?"
Max nodded, and the boy was off and out to the hallway.

Max put her night clothes back in the bag she kept next to Lucas's dresser. She quickly put on a tight fitting white t-shirt with red outlines along the sleeves and neck. As she was buttoning her jean shorts, the bedroom door flung open. Luckily Lucas was already covering his eyes, so he didn't see anything, but Max still backed up at the sight of him, and tripped backwards over the rug in the middle of his room.
"Max!" Lucas exclaimed when he heard the thud. He immediately rushed over to her, crouching down ans extending his arm out to help her up. Luckily she wasn't hurt, just startled. "Are you ok? What did I do?"
"No it's—Lucas I'm fine, you don't need to cradle me like a baby," Max scoffed, getting off the floor.
Although Lucas knew better than anyone not to pry Max about opening up about her feelings, Max still wondered if he would pry. She wanted him to. In the Sinclair kitchen, Mr. Sinclair sipped a cup of coffee as he was reading a newspaper, and Mrs. Sinclair was serving Erica a stack of pancakes with syrup drizzled over them. The little girl was still in her pajamas, and pretended to gag when she saw Max and Lucas come down the stairs. When the two older teens were finished chowing away at the pancakes, they headed back up to Lucas's room.
The young couple were standing in place as they stared at each other in the middle of Lucas's room. Their moment was interrupted by a screech from Lucas's walkie talkie though. "Lucas, where the hell are you?"
The boy grabbed the walkie talkie from his dresser, pulled up the antenna and pressed a button.
"I'm here, I was eating breakfast sheesh," Lucas whined into the device. He looked over at a giggling Max.
"Yeah, I get it, but we're supposed to meet Dustin and Max at the Corner Coffee at ten, and he lost his walkie talkie last week, so it's my job to check up on you and the fire cracker—"
Mike's annoying rant was cut short when Max heard the last part. "I'm sorry, who's the fire cracker exactly?"
"Oh, hey Max, I didn't know—"
"Save it Mike, we'll be there in ten, see you soon shit face," Max said into the walkie talkie before turning it off and placing it forcefully onto the dresser. "I really hope I don't have any classes with that asshole."

The whole party had organized months ago that they would meet up together when they received their schedules in the mail for freshman year. But now it was just Lucas, Max, Dustin, and Mike, even though it felt weird without Eleven and Will, they met up nonetheless. The four teens found a small empty table with four cushioned chairs in the back of the cafe. They all held their class schedules in the envelopes they had received over the weekend.
"Ok, on the count of three—one, two, thr—"
"Bullshit!" Max shouted as she opened her letter, tearing the envelope into a million pieces.
Mike rolled his eyes and carefully opened his envelope. Dustin peaked over at Lucas's and Max's papers. "Hey Lucas, we have gym together."
"Too bad you're not athletic," Lucas said sarcastically. In response Dustin kicked his ankle slightly.
"I have algebra with Mike, you're kidding me!" Max exclaimed.
Dustin had been accepted into all honors classes, so he only had gym with Lucas and English honors with Mike. He was disappointed, but the curly hair boy smiled anyways.
Lucas and Max looked through each other's schedule's carefully. Nothing. They were completely different from beginning to end. Like Dustin, Max was accepted into a few honors classes too, so she didn't have any classes with Lucas.
Freshman year was going to be something different.

Sorry this chapter is so much shorter than the previous one. The first few chapters of this book will seem a little boring and slow, but trust me it's gonna get good soon!
