Robin, Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan went into the Upside down to finish off Vecna in his house. Because they all knew Eleven's weaknesses, they realized they also know Vecna's. When Eleven went into the void, or into other people's minds, she entered a trance like state. Even though she had her powers when she remotely traveled, her physical body was left behind defenseless. If it was the same for all of the test subjects, it had to be the same for Vecna.

If I told you, this was only gonna hurt.

Eddie and Dustin knew there were a bunch of demo-bats guarding the upside down version of the Creel house, so they decided to stay nearby Eddie's trailer to distract any bats that could get in their friends way.

If I warned you, that the fire's gonna burn.

Will lingered at the gate in Eddie's trailer, a walkie talkie in hand in case he need to let his friends know when Vecna was about to strike.

Would you walk in?

Back in the Creel house, Max sat down and finally opened up about all of her feelings regarding Billy's death. Everything she didn't say in the letter. She knew that Vecna would only attack her if she was in an emotionally vulnerable state of mind, and talking about Billy was exactly what triggered those emotions.

"...so when I lie in bed at night now, I wish something horrible will happen to me."

Do it all in the name of love.

Max sighs and parts her lips slowly, reflecting on all the words she just revealed to Vecna. Who was really just a lantern in front of her.

"Is that true?"

Max looked over at Lucas. His arms were crossed in front of his chest, and his mouth was open in shock.

"You wanted Billy to die that night? I thought you were getting better...Max, normal people don't have thoughts about killing other people," Lucas continued, a slight growl in his voice.

"Why are you talking?" Max questioned nervously, shifting farther away from Lucas.

"Do you ever have thoughts about that like me?" Lucas finally said after a long pause.

"Lucas! No, never," Max hastily replied.

"I'm glad it's gonna be you Max. The one who breaks the world, the fourth, final sacrifice," Lucas hissed. Max stood up when Lucas started walking towards her, his eyes slowly going from honey brown to a cloudy grey. "Max, don't be afraid! I thought you said you were ready to go on. Ready to disappear!"

"I said stay away!" Max shouted when she backed into the wall. She quickly reached for a vase on the table next to her and sliced it into Lucas's head. It wasn't really him though. It was an illusion.

"Max! Can you hear me?" Lucas frantically shouted as he waved a hand in front of Max. "Max!"

He quickly grabbed his flashlight and started to signal Erica to move onto the second phase of the plan. She responded with her flashlight and grabbed her walkie talkie.

"Ok nerds, phase 2!" Erica exclaimed. She continued to use her binoculars for the sake of keeping her friends and family safe when she noticed a few large boys wearing green and white jackets. One of them made eye contact with the girl and began to run over to her.
