As they inch closer to Hailey's room, Jay finds himself filled with a vast array of emotions. He felt like he would go mad with all of the emotions rushing through him, finding himself filled with dread, hope, desperation, fear, love, anger, sadness and so many other emotions. He did not know what to feel at that current moment.
He finds that dread and sadness are battling for place in his mind, he's dreading having to see Hailey's beaten, bloodied and bruised body, and dreading any other negative outcome that could happen in the next few days. He is also sad at everything his wife had to endure over the last fifty something hours, sad at the pain his wife was in, sad that he was also a cause of Hailey's pain, and sad that he treated her in such a despicable way, knowing that she didn't deserve any of it.
Will, who was still walking next to his brother in silent support, saw the way too many flickers of emotion show on his brother's face, stopping both himself and Jay in their tracks, so he could try to smack his brother out of the wormhole he knows he is digging himself into right now. Even though Will himself also was feeling a vast array of emotions. With Jay, and about Hailey, and everything, but snapped himself out of it as his brother needed him right now, that conversation could wait.
"Jay, talk to me!" Jay looks at Will confused. Seeing the look of confusion on his brother's face he begins to talk again. "I can see all the flutters of emotion showing on your face, and I can practically hear you thinking. What's going on?" Jay lets out a heavy sigh as he debates whether he should let Will in on his thoughts, but knowing that Will could set him straight, he decides to tell him and see what happens.
As Jay stood on the precipice of Hailey's hospital room, his emotions roiled like a tempest within him, threatening to engulf him in a maelstrom of uncertainty and regret. Dread and sadness waged a bitter battle for dominance in his heart, each vying for supremacy in the tumultuous landscape of his soul.
Will, ever the steadfast pillar of support, sensed the turmoil churning beneath the surface of his brother's stoic facade. With a resolute determination born of brotherly love, his unwavering gaze fixed upon Jay's troubled countenance.
"Jay, talk to me," Will again implored, his voice laced with concern and understanding. He recognized the myriad of emotions playing across Jay's features, a silent symphony of turmoil and despair. In that moment, he knew that his brother needed him more than ever, his unwavering support a beacon of hope amidst the darkness.
Jay, torn between the desire to shield his brother from the depths of his anguish and the need for catharsis, hesitated for a fleeting moment. Yet, as he met Will's unwavering gaze, he felt the weight of his burden lessen, replaced by a glimmer of hope born of shared understanding.
"I... I don't know what to feel," Jay confessed, his voice raw with emotion. "I'm dreading seeing Hailey like this, knowing that I... I caused her pain. But I'm also...sad, Will. Sad for everything she's endured, sad for the pain she's in, and... sad that I let her down."
Will listened, his heart heavy with the weight of his brother's confession. Yet, amidst the darkness, he glimpsed a flicker of redemption, a chance for Jay to confront his demons and emerge stronger than before.
"Jay, we all make mistakes," Will began, his voice steady with conviction. "But what matters is how we choose to move forward. Hailey needs you now, more than ever. Don't let fear and regret hold you back. Be there for her, Jay. Show her that you're not just a colleague, but a friend, a confidant, a source of strength in her time of need."
Jay nodded; his resolve hardened by Will's unwavering faith. With a silent vow etched into his heart, he steeled himself for the daunting journey ahead, knowing that with his brother by his side, he could face whatever challenges lay in wait.
Together, they stepped into the unknown, their bond forged in the crucible of adversity, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness. And as they stood on the threshold of Hailey's room, Jay knew that no matter what the future held, he would face it with courage, with love, and with the unwavering support of his family by his side.
As Jay and Will stepped into the hushed confines of Hailey's ICU room, the sterile scent of antiseptic hung heavy in the air, a stark reminder of the fragility of life. Hailey lay motionless upon the pristine sheets, her form a stark contrast to the vibrant spirit he knew her to be.
Jay's heart clenched at the sight of her battered and bruised body, each bandage a silent testament to the ordeal she had endured. Yet, amidst the palpable anguish, a flicker of hope burned bright within him, a beacon of light amidst the darkness.
Drawing a shaky breath, Jay approached Hailey's bedside, his movements tentative, as though afraid to disturb the fragile peace that enveloped her. Will stood by his side, a silent sentinel of support, his presence a source of solace in the face of uncertainty.
As Jay gazed upon Hailey's sleeping form, a torrent of emotions surged through him, threatening to overwhelm his fragile resolve. Guilt gnawed at his conscience, a relentless reminder of the role he had played in her suffering. Yet, amidst the chaos, a sense of determination stirred within him, a resolve to right the wrongs of the past and stand by Hailey's side through the storm.
With trembling hands, Jay reached out to brush a stray lock of hair from Hailey's forehead, his touch tentative, as though afraid to break the fragile spell that bound them together. In that fleeting moment, he felt the weight of his love for her wash over him, a torrent of emotion that threatened to consume him whole.
And as he whispered words of apology and reassurance into the stillness of the room, Jay knew that no matter what the future held, he would stand by Hailey's side, a beacon of hope in her darkest hour. For in that moment, amidst the hallowed halls of the ICU, love prevailed, casting aside the shadows of doubt and fear, and illuminating the path forward with unwavering resolve. Will quietly exited the room, leaving his brother alone with his wife which is what he knew he needed at that given moment.
Jay, feeling his knees were about to buckle quickly sat down. He couldn't suppress the torrent of emotions that tore through him in harsh sobs seeing the way Hailey looked so small and vulnerable, an innocent angelic look on her face along with the slight hints of pain he could read on her face. Grabbing her small hand and entwining it in his own, he simply allowed himself to feel every emotion he'd been holding back since they found her.
As he allowed himself to actually think about what Hailey had to endure, he found himself breaking even more, knowing she had been sexually assaulted, and what that would do not only to her but to her frame of mind, as well as to the tiny chance of an opportunity of their relationship being able to be fixed.
He wished that he could've gotten there in time to stop or going back in time to prevent it from ever happening, but told himself that he would be there for her, through the good and the bad of the recovery from something so traumatic if she would let him. Hell, he had promised her that, the day they had gotten married to be there for her through thick and thin, good and bad, and sickness and health, and he swore to himself he would keep that promise, for the rest of his life not ever letting her go again. He promised himself that he would prove that to her for the rest of her life.
Jay manages to get himself to calm down slowing just to sniffles and allows himself a couple of minutes to pull himself together so he can be there for Hailey and begins talking to her not knowing whether she can hear him or not but he doesn't care he just had to let Hailey know he was there.
"Hailey, love, I don't know if you can hear me or not right now, but I'm so sorry you had to go through something so traumatic and I wasn't there to prevent it, I'm even more sorry that it was my fault you were in that situation in the first place. I promise you that I will rain hell down on Knox and your bastard of a father, and get you justice. I love you so much and I promise I will never let you go again. I will prove it to you for the rest of my fucking life if I have to, but I regretted what I did every single day, that I was not by your side, leaving you was the hardest choice I ever had to make, one I regret making. I love you so damn much it almost hurts, I just hope you can find it within that heart of gold I know that you have, to forgive me and give me a second chance because I can't lose you"
His voice cracks on the last word, and he leans over, placing a gentle kiss to Hailey's temple, brushing a strand of hair out of her face and gliding his thumb on her hand in a soothing manner. "Jay, nnggh..." Jay is so far in his head that he even thinks he hears her voice. "Jay"
