As the quiet settled in their apartment after Voight's departure, the gravity of the decision weighed heavily on both Hailey and Jay.

They sat in silence for what felt like hours, each lost in their own thoughts. Jay's mind raced, caught between the pull of his past and the life he was trying to build with Hailey.

Hailey, on the other hand, felt a growing sense of dread. She knew what this offer could do to Jay—the toll it could take on him and their relationship.

Finally, Hailey broke the silence.

"So... what are you thinking?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, but laced with tension.

Jay rubbed his face, leaning forward on the couch, elbows resting on his knees. "I don't know, Hailey. It's a lot to process."

"I get that," she replied, her tone measured. "But... after everything, Jay, are you really considering this?"

He looked over at her, noticing the worry etched into her features. "It's not that simple, Hailey. It's not just a job. It's—"

"It *is* just a job, Jay," Hailey interrupted, her voice sharper now. "And we left that world for a reason. You left for a reason."

"I know that!" Jay shot back, the frustration bubbling to the surface. "But it's not just about leaving, Hailey. It's about who I am. Voight trusted me with that team, and a part of me feels like I'm abandoning them if I don't even consider it."

Hailey shook her head, crossing her arms. "You're not abandoning anyone. You've already given so much of yourself to that job, to Voight. But look where it got us. Look what it almost did to you." Her voice softened for a moment, a plea beneath the frustration. "To us."

Jay sighed, his chest tightening as he looked away. "I know, Hailey. I *know*. But I can't help feeling like I owe it to them to at least think about it. It's not like I'm jumping right back into it."

Hailey uncrossed her arms, standing up and pacing in front of him, her emotions finally spilling over. "You *are* jumping back into it, Jay! You take that job, and it's going to consume you again. You've seen it happen to Voight. You've seen it happen to both of us."

Jay's eyes narrowed, his frustration building. "So, what are you saying? That I'm not strong enough to handle it? That I can't balance the job and us?"

"I'm saying I don't want to watch you *lose* yourself again!" Hailey shot back, her voice rising. "I don't want to sit back and watch while you drown in that world, while we lose everything we've worked to rebuild."

Jay stood up, now facing her. "This isn't fair, Hailey! You know how much that job meant to me, how much those people mean to me. You're acting like I'm choosing the job over us, but that's not what this is."

"Isn't it?" Hailey's voice cracked, and the vulnerability in her tone stopped him. "I'm scared, Jay. I'm scared of what this will do to us. We're just getting back on our feet, finding our way again. And now, it feels like we're right back where we started."

Jay's frustration melted as he saw the pain in her eyes. He stepped closer, his voice softening. "I don't want to hurt you, Hailey. I don't want to lose what we have. But I also don't want to ignore the part of me that still cares about that team."
