P.S I did not think this book would go this far so I wanted to say thank you for all the support on this book and I'm glad you are enjoying okay rant done onto the reading....
—————————————————————————————————The morning after their heartfelt conversation, Hailey woke up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the gentle hum of activity in the kitchen. She rubbed her eyes, feeling a sense of calm she hadn't felt in months. Sliding out of bed, she padded to the kitchen to find Jay making breakfast.
He turned and gave her a warm smile. "Good morning," he said, handing her a mug of coffee just the way she liked it. "I thought we could start the day off with a good breakfast and maybe talk some more." Hailey took the mug, grateful for the gesture. "That sounds perfect," she replied, leaning against the counter. "I think we have a lot more to discuss."
They sat down to a simple breakfast of eggs, toast, and fruit. The atmosphere was lighter, but both knew there were still many things left unsaid. Jay reached across the table, taking Hailey's hand in his. "Hailey, I know last night was a big step, but I realize we still have some differences and unresolved feelings. I want to make sure we're on the same page about everything," Jay said, his eyes searching hers for understanding. Hailey nodded, squeezing his hand. "I agree. We've made progress, but there's still a lot we need to work through. We need to be honest about our feelings and find solutions together."
Jay took a deep breath. "One thing that's been on my mind is how we handle our careers. The danger we face every day... I don't want us to lose each other again because of it." Hailey looked thoughtful. "Our jobs are a big part of who we are, Jay. But I understand your concern. I think we need to set some boundaries, not just for our safety but for our emotional well-being too. We can't let our work come between us." Jay nodded. "Maybe we can agree to always keep each other informed about dangerous situations and make a pact to check in regularly, no matter how busy we get."
Hailey smiled. "I like that idea. And we should also make time for each other, no matter what. Date nights, weekends away... anything to keep our connection strong." As they finished breakfast, they felt a renewed sense of commitment to each other. They spent the day doing mundane tasks, but each moment was filled with a new sense of partnership.
They cleaned the house, did laundry, and even went grocery shopping together, though Hailey still struggled with her injuries but having Jay by her side constantly made them a little easier to deal with. The simplicity of these tasks brought them closer, reminding them of the life they were building together.
That evening, they decided to watch a movie. Hailey snuggled into Jay's side, feeling his arm wrap around her protectively. Halfway through the movie, she paused it, turning to face him. "Jay, there's something else I need to tell you," she said, her voice hesitant.
Jay's brow furrowed with concern. "What is it?" Hailey took a deep breath. "While you were gone, there were moments when I doubted us. I questioned if we could ever get back to what we had. I even considered... moving on." Jay's heart clenched. "Did you... did you see someone else?" Hailey shook her head quickly. "No, I didn't. But I thought about it. The loneliness was unbearable, and I didn't know if you'd ever come back. I hated myself for even considering it, but I needed to be honest with you."
Jay closed his eyes for a moment, absorbing her words. When he opened them, they were filled with a mix of pain and understanding. "Thank you for telling me, Hailey. I know it wasn't easy. But I'm here now, and I'm never leaving again. We'll get through this together. I'd climb every mountain, and swim every ocean, just to be with you, and fix what I've broken, cause I need you to see that you are the reason. And if I could turn back the clock, I'd make sure the light defeated the dark, I'd spend every hour, of every day keeping you safe"
