The next morning, Jay woke up to the soft rise and fall of Hailey's breathing as she slept soundly beside him. Watching her for a moment, he gently ran his fingers through her hair, thinking about the night before. He hated seeing her that way, so weighed down by everything.Determined to lift her spirits, he had an idea.
Later that afternoon, Jay found Hailey sitting on the couch, still in her pajamas, scrolling absentmindedly through her phone. He approached her with a mischievous smile."Hey," he started, causing her to look up. "What do you say we get out of here for a bit?" Hailey raised an eyebrow. "Out? Like where?"
"It's a surprise," he said, taking her hand and pulling her to her feet. "Come on, get dressed. I've got something planned."
Despite her hesitation, Hailey smiled softly, curiosity sparking in her eyes. "Alright, but if this ends up being some elaborate trick to murder me..." she says cheekily with a smirk on her face raising her eyebrows.
Jay laughed, shaking his head. "I swear, I'm not murdering you why would I want to murder the woman who buys me beer and deep dish. Just us. Trust me."
Hailey chuckles "oh so that's all I'm good for beer and pizza I thought you loved me and you married me for the incredible person that I am and how gorgeous I was but I guess that was all a lie" wanting to play with him just a little enjoying this and she puts a pout on her face before walking into their bedroom dragging herself.
Jay chuckled shaking his head at his wife's antics as he followed Hailey into the bedroom, watching her exaggerated pout with amusement. "Oh, come on," he teased, leaning against the doorframe as she pretended to drag her feet. "You know I married you for your pizza-ordering skills, but the whole 'incredible person' and 'gorgeous' thing is definitely a bonus. Also I love you by the way in case you don't notice that" He flashed her a playful grin, stepping closer to wrap his arms around her waist from behind. She leaned back into him, her fake pout turning into a smile as he kissed the side of her head chuckling as a blush rose to her cheeks. "Now, hurry up and get dressed, or we'll miss the fun part of the day."
A few minutes later, Hailey emerged from the bedroom, dressed casually but with a touch of excitement in her eyes. Jay grabbed her hand and led her outside, the sun shining brightly as they hopped into the car. The drive was filled with lighthearted conversation, Jay refusing to give away any hints about where they were going.
About an hour later, they were in the car, driving to a quiet park just outside the city. The sun was peeking through the clouds, casting a golden glow over the grassy fields as they arrived. What's the plan?" she asked. Jay smirked, "Just trust me." Hailey's curiosity deepened as they found a spot near a small pond, the peaceful surroundings starting to ease the tension in her shoulders. Hailey, looking around, her eyes widening in surprise when she spotted a little food truck parked nearby.
"You brought me here for food?" she asked, playfully skeptical. "Not just any food," Jay grinned. "The best empanadas in the city. And I know how much you love them." Her face lit up in genuine excitement. "Okay, now you've got me interested."
They walked hand in hand to the truck, ordered their food, and found a spot under a large oak tree. The air was warm and fresh, and for the first time in days, Hailey felt herself truly relax. They ate, talked, and even laughed about old stories from the precinct.
