"Well, well, well, if it isn't the two losers," Mitch says
"Let's just ignore him. He's not worth our time," Jack asserts, his voice steady and resolute.
"You're not going anywhere until you tell me why you ruined my awesome party," Mitch demands with a hint of anger.
"Not that it was that awesome, to begin with," I say
"James, what are you doing? Why are you trying to make him mad?" Jack says
"I'm tired of Mitch trampling over us. Didn't you want me to stand up for us?" I say, my voice filled with determination.
"Oh right, yea I forgot about that," Jack says
Out of nowhere, two of Mitch's friends, known for their intimidating presence, materialize, their grip firm on our arms. "You two made a terrible mistake by ruining my party," Mitch, seething with anger, says
"James, please tell me. Can you get us out of this?" Jack says
"Jack, you know what I'm capable of. I can't do anything," I say.
"Now answer my questions, or else I will make sure you regret it," Mitch says
"Yeah, as if I'm not scared of you," I say
"James, you're just digging our graves. Please stop," Jack says
Mitch punches Jack. "You were always a great guy, and why did you decide to hang out with this loser?" Mitch says
"Mitch, this isn't you. Why are you acting like this?" Jack pleads, his voice filled with confusion and hurt.
"Because I realized you were holding me back," Mitch says
"Seriously, I don't believe this. I always supported you, and this is how you treat me," Jack says
Seeing Jack like that, I felt a fire burning inside me. "you'll pay for that," I say
"What are you going to do? You're weak," Mitch says
"That's it, take this," I say. A surge of fire, a power I never knew I possessed, erupted from my hands, propelling everyone back.
"Woah, what was that?" Jack says
"Doesn't matter. We need to run," I say, grabbing Jack's arm and pulling him towards the nearest exit.
Jack and I rush out of the area and find a location away from Mitch. "James, what was that? How did you do that?" Jack says
"I don't know. I didn't even know I had such abilities," I say, my voice tinged with wonder and confusion.
"That was sick you showed him," Jack says
"I could have hurt someone," I say
Jack slaps me. "Dude, get it together. We're safe. You're just overthinking it. Where did that confidence go?" Jack says
"I don't know. I saw you getting hurt, and something took over, and all that happened," I say
"We'll worry about that later," Jack says
"Maybe I should check my dad's lab to see if I find anything," I say
"Are you sure you want to do that? Didn't I, don't know, burn down?" Jack says
"Yeah, I want to know. Maybe I have other powers, too," I say
"Whatever you do, I'm with you," Jack says
I get a text from "James, can you come by real quick? We need to talk to you."
"That's strange. Why would they need to talk to you?" Jack says
"I don't know the food can wait. I want to see what they want," I say
"Alright, let's go then," Jack says
Me and Jack head over to my cousin's house. "hopefully, it's nothing bad," I say
"It'll be fine," Jack says
A few minutes later, we arrive, and I knock on the door. Nick opens the door. "good you're here, and you brought Jack with you," Nick says
"Hey, Nick, it's been a while," Jack says
"Come in. We need to talk with you," Nick says
We had inside the living room, and A.J. was standing there. "Sit down. We need to talk," A.J says
Jack and I sit down, trying not to panic, hoping that they didn't find out the truth.
