"Don't look now, but- okay never mind you can look now," Hattie hissed in Iris' ear, the two of them standing by the Sunnydale High gates.

Scooby reflexes kicking in, she whipped her head around only to be faced with the one and only Adrian.

"Oh!" she exclaimed, heart suddenly in her throat.

"Iris, hey. How's your turtle?"

Both Iris and Hattie winced remembering yesterday's events at the warehouse, and the hullabaloo that followed from Willow and the others.

"Wanna know a secret?" Iris asked and Adrian grinned.

"Sure thing,"

"I don't actually have a turtle," she admitted and Hattie stage-gasped behind her.

"Plot twist!"

Iris glared, shoving the piece of walking alliteration towards the school building.

"Well, I must admit, I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to meeting that turtle someday," he spoke with a mischievous smile and Iris managed a nervous giggle in response.

"Who's the other girl?" he asked and Iris exhaled softly.

"My mom's friend's daughter. Hattie Harris,"

Adrian struggled to stifle his laugh.

"That's not really her name is it?" he asked and Iris grinned.

"Well, Henrietta Harris technically but I'm not sure that's much better,"

Adrian laughed properly this time, running a hand over his face.

"I better get to class but it was nice to see you again Iris..."

"Rosenberg-Maclay," she filled in for him and he smiled.

"Adrian Hall, at your service,"

"Why thank you," she replied, awkwardly dropping into a curtsy.

Hattie was watching from the top of the steps and was almost red with laughter by the time Iris reached her.

"Did you just curtsy?" Hattie asked through fits of giggles and it was Iris' turn to go red.

"Shut up Henrietta," she grumbled, pushing through the automatic doors into the school's corridors.

"Make me, Turtle-Girl,"

"Aren't you meant to be in SAT prep or something?"

"Aren't you meant to be in Addition for Beginners or something?" Hattie shot back with a smile and Iris rolled her eyes.

"See you at lunch,"

"See ya,"

...

"Can you tell your mother to stop texting me like a maniac?" Iris asked when the two of them were out of class.

Hattie raised an eyebrow.

"What's she saying?"

"There's a rabbit in the warehouse," Iris replied darkly and Hattie let out a short bark of laughter.

"Then nope. She's your problem now. Shouldn't have given her your number,"

Iris groaned and whipped out her phone to shoot back,

'Get buffy to shoo it out you'll be fine deep breaths text your own kid next time'

Hattie glanced over Iris' shoulder to read Anya's response as the three dots bobbed up and down.

"No phones in the corridors. Go outside and talk to people, that's what we all had to do," a teacher snapped at them and both girls huffed as Iris shoved her phone into her pocket.
