A sharp tap on the shoulder drew Iris out of the trance Gracie Abrams had put her in on the bus ride home.

"Hey. Mind if I sit here?"

Taking her earphones out, Iris glanced up to see Adrian, a small smile on his broad face.

"Oh! Uh, yeah, totally, no problem at all," she stammered, suddenly self conscious of every little movement she made and his smile grew wider.

"So rumour has it you're dating that Frank kid. Any comments?" he asked and Iris stared back at him in utter confusion.

"Me and Frank Holloway? Who the hell d'you hear that from?" she exclaimed in horror, picturing the linebacker from her math class and wondering who was spreading that around campus.

"Just the grapevine. I figured it wasn't true. Too busy feeding turtles to date right?" Adrian replied with a smirk and she felt her cheeks heat up.

"You wish," Iris replied awkwardly.

Adrian paused before opening his mouth again, this time dropping the smirk and charm.

"Look, I just wanted to apologise for the other day. I know I probably made you uncomfortable and that's not what I was trying to do, I swear,"

Iris looked back at him, overcome with surprise and appreciation.

"Oh! No, it's totally fine. People usually freak out when I tell them I have two moms and you didn't so that kinda freaked me out," she told him with an anxious laugh and he smiled back.

"No harm no foul on my end. I'm just glad you don't hate me,"

"No! I don't hate you. 'Not even close, not even a little bit'," Iris spoke hastily, immediately regretting her choice of words but much to her surprise Adrian laughed.

"'Not even at all'?" he asked, finishing the iconic movie quote. "Didn't peg you to be rom-com fan Turtle Girl,"

Iris gasped.

"Are you like a girl in disguise? I mean, you've seen Gilmore Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You and you read Twilight- I gotta admit, I thought you'd be a little more hammer hammer nail nail, shopping at the warehouse and all," she joked.

"Stereotypes are a dangerous thing TG," he replied with a wink, both standing as the bus pulled to a stop right at the end of Iris' street.

"This your stop too?" Adrian asked with a raised eyebrow and Iris nodded slowly, her heart racing inside her chest.

"You're the one who moved in at the top of the street?" she exclaimed and he grinned.

"Small world, hey? Where's your place?"

"Three doors down from yours apparently," she replied, drawing a nervous breath.

"No way. Well, if you're up for it, we could walk together tomorrow morning. Assuming you don't have ballet class," he teased and Iris rolled her eyes, smiling despite herself as they stepped off the bus.

"Touche. And you'll have to argue with Hattie, she's been my walking partner since I was in grade school,"

Adrian grinned.

"I might just take her up on the challenge. I'll call you later and let y'know if I'm worthy, how's that?" he asked and Iris froze.

"Y-you don't have my number,"

He took a step forward, swiping her phone from the pocket of her jeans and scrawling the number onto his hand.

"Do now. Catch ya round TG,"
