Ball

42.

She stood in front of the mirror, turning slightly to take in every angle of the dress. It fit her perfectly, hugging her curves and flowing just right. The way the fabric shimmered under the light made her smile. She had always loved her body, and today was no different. There was a certain pride in the way she carried herself, a confidence that had never wavered.

As she admired the dress, she caught sight of Theo in the reflection. He was leaning against the doorframe, watching her with that familiar, easy smile that made her heart skip a beat. His eyes, full of warmth and admiration, met hers in the mirror.

He walked up behind her, his hands rested on her hips, and he leaned in close, his voice a soft whisper in her ear. “You look so gorgeous,” he said, his breath warm against her skin.

The words were simple, but they held a depth of feeling that made her smile.

He kissed her gently on the temple, and for a moment, they just stood there, taking it all in.

Hand in hand, they left the bedroom and walked down the hallway of the White House. The place was as grand as ever, but she barely noticed, too focused on the warmth of Theo’s hand in hers and the steady sound of their footsteps. The chandeliers above cast a soft glow, the walls lined with portraits that seemed to watch them as they passed.

When they reached the entrance, a sleek black vehicle was waiting for them.

The driver stood by, ready to open the door.

She glanced at Theo, feeling a wave of love.

With a final squeeze of his hand, they stepped into the vehicle together.

Her head lay rested on his shoulder, and her eyes were taking clothes in the moment.

As they reached the location, Theodore stepped out of the car first, circling around to open the door for Nia. Her heels clicked softly against the pavement as she gracefully exited the vehicle. Without saying a word, he leaned down and kissed her forehead, a gentle gesture that filled her with warmth. Together, they walked toward the grand entrance, hand in hand, the evening air thick with anticipation.

Inside, the atmosphere shifted. All eyes turned toward them, curious gazes following as they moved through the room. People greeted the President with respect, various politicians and influential figures stepping forward to shake his hand. With each introduction, Theodore proudly presented her as his partner, a title that made her heart flutter. She couldn’t help but feel a mix of nerves and excitement, but seeing the pride in his eyes helped settle her unease.

As Theodore continued mingling, he gently guided her toward a group where Lisa, his sister, and a few of her friends were chatting. “I’ll leave you with Lisa for a while, but I’ll come find you soon,” he whispered before giving her hand a reassuring squeeze and stepping away.
