Warnings: slight angst, but nothing to worry about

"I doubt she'll react negatively like the last time you've done this."

"Hey Mak, I have some errands that I need to quickly run," Steve said, exiting the kitchen, snack in hand. "Do you you want me to come back and pick you up, or will you call Kono, Tani, or one of the guys to pick you up and I'll meet you at the beach?"

"I can call Kono or Tani," I smiled at my boyfriend. "No need to rush. You get what you need to get done without having to worry about me."

Steve came over to where I was on the couch, and he kissed my cheek before grabbing his truck's keys.

"I'll see you there then," he smiled again, opening the door. "I love you."

"I love you too, Steve."

I smiled back at him.

When he closed the door, I stopped smiling. I got up from my spot, and I carefully made my way to the bathroom. Once I got through the doorway of the master bathroom, I closed the door and locked it. Taking off my shirt, I turned around, revealing my newly healed, metal spine.

I studied it closely. I found it hauntingly similar to something I've seen before, but I couldn't put my finder on what. However, I had a feeling it meant nothing good.
