The sun rose over the walls of Ba Sing Se.
A grand platform had been erected in the outer ring, draped in green and gold banners that snapped in the wind.
Thousands had gathered—Earth Kingdom citizens, Fire Nation envoys, and Water Tribe representatives had come to bear witness. The air smelled of incense and fresh rain. For the first time in a century, the world felt... quiet.
At the center of the platform stood Zuko, Fire Lord, scarred and steady. Beside him was Kuei, the Earth King, older now, but smiling with the cautious hope of a man who had lost and reclaimed his throne. Representatives from every nation flanked them, their robes a patchwork of blue, green, red, and yellow.
Zuko stepped forward, scroll in hand. His voice carried across the square, calm but firm.
"A year ago, we ended a war that took everything from us. Homes. Families. Trust. Today we sign not just words on paper, but a promise—to ourselves, to each other, to the future. No more conquest. No more fear. Only balance."
He unrolled the scroll. Kuei did the same. Together, they pressed their seals into red wax. A soft cheer rose from the crowd, hesitant at first, then stronger. Children waved flags. Elders wiped tears. The world had changed.
Or so it seemed.
Far to the west, beyond the horizon, something was stirring.
A new banner rose over a distant plain — crimson and black, edged with a strange, restless fire that did not obey the laws of flame. A tall figure stood on a hill overlooking a sprawl of iron and smoke, hair wild in the wind, eyes fixed on the west. The figure did not speak. It only watched.
The Hundred Year War had ended.
But in the silence that followed, something older had begun to wake.
The world had known peace for five years.
It would not know it again.
