So to make it a bit clearer, 5sos got semi-famous but not overly famous where everyone knew them. They were about as relevant as they were at the beginning of the tour with One Direction I guess??? Also media is Lauren and Mikey because babes. Final thing: Michael's hair is silver now.

Lauren was just as nervous, if not more than, as Mikey was about dinner with the Laidley's and Baumann's. She knew that her mother was rather strict about the boys she and her siblings dated, so she was unsure of whether or not her mother would approve of the rebellious, 21 year old man whom Lauren was seeing.

Soon after Michael arrived, Lauren's mother came into the living room to announce dinner. They gathered around the table (an amazing achievement, considering the amount of people gathered. Mr. Laidley had built a custom table to fit all 18 people in the family) and dug into the beautiful feast that was set before them. Baked chicken, carrots, mashed potatoes, bread & butter, ceased salad, and mixed berries occupied the plates of the mixed family. Michael had to tip his hat to Mrs. Laidley- it truly was a delicious feast.
"So, Michael, is it?" A man whom Michael assumed was Mr. Baumann addressed Michael.
"Yes, sir, that's me." Michael responded respectfully.
"What do you do for a living? Are you still in school?"
"No, sir. I... Er, I dropped out of high school when I was 16 to tour with my band. I was doing that up until a few months ago, when I split off to start a solo career."
There was a moment of silence as Mr. Baumann stared at Michael, then he burst out laughing. "The Laidley girls really know how to find the good ones, don't they?" He boomed.
"Brandon dropped out of high school as well." Lauren explained from next to Michael.
Michael nodded, understanding the joke. "I suppose so, sir."
"So, you mentioned a band. Where you any good? Tell me more." Mr. Baumann continued.
"We were called 5 Seconds of Summer, sir. We toured for about a year until our bassist, Calum, got into a motorcycle accident and shattered his left hand. After that we stopped the tour and the band wasn't doing too well without a bassist so I split off to start a solo career, and the rest of the band... Well, I don't know what happened to them. I haven't heard from any of them in a while." Michael admitted.
"What instrument do you play?" Mrs. Laidley asked Michael.
"Guitar, ma'am."
"You know, I play guitar. I have it with me, you should play something for us after dinner." Cordell, Brandon's brother, said to Mikey.
The rest of the table nodded and let out various noises of agreement.
"Alright, I can play something." He agreed.

After dinner and dessert (berry pie with home made vanilla ice cream) was over, the entire family squished into the living room to listen to Michael play. Even Jeannessa, who had been glued to some form of a screen all night, had put her phone away long enough to listen to him.
"Okay, uh, this song is called Never Be, and I wrote it when I first met Lauren. It was originally going to be a single on our debut album, but then we split up and that album was never produced... Anyways, enjoy." Michael introduced the song and then he began playing.

I need your love to light up this house
I wanna know what you're all about
I wanna feel you, feel you tonight
I wanna tell you that it's alright

I need your love to guide me back home
When I'm with you, I'm never alone
I need to feel you, feel you tonight
I need to tell you that it's alright

He launched into the chorus.

We'll never be as young as we are now
It's time to leave this old black and white town
Let's seize the day
Let's run away
Don't let he colors fade to grey
We'll never be as young as we are now
As young as we are now

Mikey continued on with the song, ending with a dramatic "as young as we are now".
"That was fantastic, Michael!" Brandon complimented.
"I agree. You're brilliant!" Mrs. Baumann said.
"Great job." Cordell agreed.
Another round of applause and congratulations were given to Michael, and by this time he was beet red.
"Thanks, everyone." Michael blushed. "I wish I could stay longer but my train leaves in 35 minutes. Thank you all so much for your hospitality, though. I had an amazing time."
"Of course dear, come again soon alright?" Mrs. Laidley said. Michael nodded.
"Of course."
"I'm going to walk Michael to the station, alright Mum?" Lauren asked.
"Be home as soon as possible, alright? I know you're an adult but I still worry."
"Of course, Mum. Leave the back door open, alright?"

And with that, Michael and Lauren left family night.
