Michael and Lauren's relationship grew stronger with each passing day. Most people don't believe in the concept of 'love at first sight' (and they certainly didn't realize it at the time), but what Michael and Lauren had could have been nothing short of true love.
Michael grew fonder and fonder of the young woman as the days passed by. He began skipping band practices to come see her, and he quit his job. He was making enough money with his music, anyways.

One day in mid December, Michael showed up on Lauren's porch step, a bouquet of roses in her hand. He knocked twice, then stepped back to allow the door to be opened. He heard her beautiful laugh filtering out from inside the house, and when the door was opened, Michael's heart dropped to his stomach.
Lauren had a wide smile on her face, and a tall boy stood behind her with his arms around her waist and his chin rested on top of her head.
"Oh... Michael! What are you doing here?" She giggled.
"I... Brought you flowers, but I see that you're, uh, occupied. Never mind." Michael muttered, shoving the flowers into Lauren's arms and turning to leave.
Lauren laughed. "Oh, Mikey, did you think that this is my boyfriend or something?"
"I... Yeah, I guess." Michael said, turning back to her.
"Mikey, you silly boy. This is my
sister's boyfriend, Brandon."
"Good to meet you, Michael. I've heard a lot about you. Lauren won't shut up about you during family dinners." Brandon laughed, holding his hand out to Michael. Michael took it and shook firmly.
"Why don't you come in and meet my family?" Lauren offered. Michael nodded shyly.
"I wasn't prepared... I didn't wear anything, well, nice." He blushed, glancing down at the simple black baseball t-shirt and black skinny jeans.
"Michael! You look fine, calm down." She laughed.

Michael followed Lauren inside the beautiful house. They entered into the living room, where he saw a scene he didn't expect.
A teenage girl, probably 16 or so, was sprawled out on the couch, an Xbox controller in her hand. A boy who was probably about 9 or ten, a girl a few years younger than that, and another boy probably about 15 sat on the floor, leaning back against the couch, also holding controllers. They were playing Mario Kart, and the girl sprawled on the couch kept swearing loudly. Sitting on another couch to the right were three more teenage girls (Michael estimated they were somewhere between 14 and 18) who were comparing toe nail color (at least that's what Michael thought they were doing), two women in their early 30's, and an older gentleman, who were discussing politics loudly also sat there.

"Family!" Lauren called. She turned to me, explaining. "I don't know what else to call them. This isn't even all of us. Big family."
"Lauren, we're in the middle of a game." The teenager sprawled on the couch whined, pausing her game.
"Shut it, Jeanie." Lauren snapped. "Everybody, I want to introduce my..." She looked over at Michael, who muttered "Boyfriend" under his breath to her. "... My boyfriend, Michael. He'll be joining us for family night."
"Hi, Michael!" A chorus of voices responded.
"Alright, I'll introduce you. The annoying girl on the couch is Jeannessa, my sister. The little boy and girl beneath her are Maceo and Arya, also my siblings-"
She was cut off by the boy, Maceo. "I'm not little. I'm 9 and a half, Lauren." She ignored him.
"The other boy there is Cordell, he's Brandon's brother. Brandon, who you met already, like I said has been with Jeanie for two years or something now. Over on the other couch are my sisters Meagan and Brittany, as well as Andie, another one of Brandon's family. The adults are Rachel and Kayla, more siblings of Brandon, and my dad, Kevin." Lauren pointed at each person and they waved as their name was called.
"I expect that my mother and Brandon's parents are in the kitchen or the den. There's also Lilah, my last sister, and Brandon's sister Reneá running around somewhere. Brandon has another sister, Naomi, but she decided to go to college in Africa, so she's never here." Lauren continued.
"Are there any more?" Michael asked, concerned.
"No, that's it. I know, it's a lot to take in. 14 kids and four adults, I know. It's confusing. You won't be expected to remember everyone for a while."

Lauren's father, Kevin, stood and walked over to Michael.
"It's great to meet the boy- or man, rather, looking at you- that my daughter speaks so highly of." He said, offering a hand to Michael. Michael took it and shook firmly.
"It's fantastic to meet you as well, Mr, Laidley."
"Oh, please, Kevin. I'm not your teacher." Kevin laughed.
Michael smiled, even though he was shaking in his tattered boots. He was so nervous to make a good first impression on Lauren's family, because he was hopelessly in love with her. He took a deep breath, and stepped into the living room.

Authors note: OKAY I GET THIS IS CONFUSING I KNOW! I will explain it to make it more simple.
Brandon's Family:
Unnamed Father and Mother
Rachel, 32
Kayla, 28
Naomi (in Africa), 22
Brandon, 21
Andie, 17
Cordell, 15
Reneá (not given an age in the chapter), 12
Lauren's Family:
Kevin, her Father
Unnamed Mother
Lauren, 19
Jeannessa, 17
Brittany, 16
Meagan, 14
Maceo, 9
Arya, 7
Lilah, 5

I hope that helped clear things up a bit? I know it's so confusing I'm sorry.
The layout of the couches in the living room is also really confusing so I'm going to explain that as well.
So you walk into the house and after like a 5 foot hallway to the right is the living room. It's a small step down into the living room. There are three couches, one on each side of the room and then a third against the hallway facing the big TV. It's like a U shape around a coffee table and the TV. Hope that cleared that bit up.
That is all, thank you for reading!!
