Lauren despised smoking. She thought that the people who smoked were vulgar and disgusting and ruining their health. Well, she knew for a fact that they were ruining their health. It was scientifically proven. It was her own opinion that those who smoked were vulgar and disgusting, though. So you can imagine how angry she was when she was taking her nightly dusk walk and saw the young man smoking in her beloved park.
"Excuse me!" She called, rushing to catch up with the reddish-orange haired boy who was walking with his back to her.
"Yeah?" He asked, turning around. In his left hand was a guitar, and in his right he held the cigarette.
"If you keep that up you'll be dead." Lauren replied, gesturing to the cigarette.
"We all die at some point, Sweetheart. I'm just making the most of what I've got." He smirked.
"How is speeding up your death process 'making the most' of your life? That makes no sense!"
"I do what I want. I'm spontaneous. I saw a pack of cigs this morning. I wanted them, so I bought them. Do you have a problem with the way I'm choosing to conduct myself?"
"Yeah, as a matter of fact, I do, because for one thing, second hand smoke kills. You're killing me right now with that ghastly smoke." Lauren angrily told the tall boy. He laughed in response and took another drag off his cigarette, blowing the smoke into the smaller girl's face.
"Stop that! For another thing, you're polluting! You'll go and finish having a smoke and you'll toss it onto the ground, step on it, and leave it there! Oh, not in my park you won't!" Lauren was nearly shouting now.
"Honey, what in the sweet Lord's name are you gonna do about it?" He was severely amused at this point.
"I... I'll..." She stuttered, trying to come up with something.
"You'll do what? Call the police on me? Smoking isn't a crime, you know. Stop treating it like one and be on your way, little girl." He smirked.
Lauren's jaw dropped. How dare he call her a little girl!
With some sudden, bizarre urge to show the ignorant boy up, Lauren grabbed the cigarette from between the lips of the young man, threw it on the ground, stomped on it, picked it back up, and threw it in the trash can next to her.
"That's what I'll do about it. Now off you go. Ruin some other town's nature." And with that, Lauren turned on her heel and stomped back home, with the sun setting behind her and the young man smiling in amusement at her quickly disappearing form.
