"Why? Why does Atlas want to see her? What's happening?" Elaine flooded me with questions again. Altus just looked at her, not wanting to answer any of her questions.
I looked at my best friend and gently squeezed her hand. "I'll tell you everything later, okay? For now, you can go home. I'm pretty sure Renzo is waiting for you." I told her. Altus' eyes darkened with all the drama my best friend and I were making.
I looked at my friend again and smiled to show that I'll be fine. She looks at Altus who's also looking at her before she turns her heels to leave.
"Sorry for making you wait." I told him.
"It's fine. I don't really mind." he replied as if I didn't see how his face darkened earlier.
He led me towards the pack house where his brother's office is located. We were silent along the way and I immediately picked up Atlas' mood just by judging the mood of his beta.
He knocked on the wooden door three times before we heard Atlas giving us permission to come in.
"You may enter. I'll stay here outside." Altus told me and I took a deep breath before I nodded.
I slowly opened the door before letting myself fully enter his office. This was his father's. I've seen that he changed some of its interiors, placing more wooden furniture. The same old painting of the pristine waters of the Atlantic ocean can be seen behind him. I'm glad he didn't get rid of it.
I close the door behind me and walk towards his table where he's sitting right now. His delicious scent engulfs my system causing my wolf to jump in happiness.
He senses my presence and takes his eyes off his paper works to look at me. I felt my breathing hitch upon meeting his eyes.
He doesn't say anything. He just continues to study me as I stand in front of him. I can't read his emotions and that's what scares me. I heard stories when I was young where mates instantly become inseparable upon meeting each other. Why is their experience very different from mine?
My heart aches at the thought.
I heard Atlas clearing his throat. I automatically become attentive to what he's going to say.
"You may sit down first." he said, to which I immediately obliged. I move towards the visitor's chair in front of him and I immediately hear a low growl of disapproval coming from him. I turn my gaze towards him only to see his eyes close.
"You may... sit down on that couch." he said after a while while pointing at the sofa on the far left side of his office.
I felt a sudden tug of pain in my system. He doesn't want me near him.
I followed what he wanted and sat on the couch with my head turned downwards. With the pain I am feeling right now, I don't think I can look in his eyes without crying.
