Author POV:

Ashok stood outside the ICU, his eyes glistening with unshed tears as he gazed at his niece, Sharmila, lying amidst a maze of tubes and an oxygen mask. The sight of her, after a decade, shattered his heart. He couldn't hold back the tears that had been welling up since he received the call.

As soon as the hospital informed him that his niece had woken up, he dropped everything, canceling a crucial meeting in Dubai and booking the first flight to Singapore. He also instructed the hospital to avoid contacting Suhail, knowing that seeing Sharmila's condition would only deepen his guilt and potentially drive him to reckless actions.

Arriving at the hospital, Ashok was confronted with the harsh reality of Sharmila's state. After ten years in a coma, she had the mind of a ten-year-old trapped in a twenty-year-old body. Her cries and tantrums echoed through the hospital until the medical staff sedated her.

"Sir," the doctor called, breaking Ashok from his sorrowful reverie. He quickly wiped his tears, adopting the cold, unfeeling facade he was known for, except around his beloved niece and nephews.

"I need to discuss Sharmila's condition with you," the doctor said.

Ashok's heart clenched with fear. He was already grappling with the heartbreaking reality that his niece had the mind of a child. How much worse could it get?

He nodded, signaling the doctor to continue.

"As you know, the patient was in a coma for ten years. Her nervous and muscular systems are severely weakened. Additionally, her physical condition at the time of admission was extremely poor—her legs were paralyzed. I'm sorry to say this, but she won't be able to walk again, and she is infertile," the doctor explained, his voice tinged with sorrow.

Despite his professional detachment, the doctor had grown attached to Sharmila over the years, having treated her since the beginning of her ordeal. The sight of her initial injuries had ignited a deep-seated anger and frustration within him, especially knowing that her abuser remained free while Sharmila's life was irreparably damaged. The judicial system's failure to bring the perpetrator to justice only fueled his rage.

Ashok felt his heart drop into his stomach as the doctor's words sank in.He staggered a bit making him take the chair as a balance. His beloved niece, the little girl he had doted on from the day she was born, would never walk or have children of her own. The injustice and cruelty of what had happened to her all those years ago overwhelmed him anew.

Taking a steadying breath, Ashok regained his composure and turned back to the doctor. "Please, tell me what care and therapy options are available. I don’t care about the cost and money. I just want my niece to be back to normal doctor ."

“I can understand your state Mr. Mehra. But I am sorry to say that your niece condition is permanent and in the future if she ever were to get pregnant then she or the baby will die as her condition is not right for it.” stating this the doctor patted his shoulder and left from there.

Ashok let his tears stream down his cheek. He could not believe the joy and happiness of his family is shattered down like this. On one side his nephew whose anger was rising and does not think before he acts and turns psycho and was acting like a bastard who abuses women and on the other side his niece was paralysed for the rest of her life.

What had he and his sister done to deserve this punishments in their life. And how long must he endure.

Elizey sighed and left a few curses for her  and picked up the file. She went through the file and saw that needed to print out some sheets in order for the work to be complete.
