Donnie x Reader - Chemical Reaction (Part 1)

"(Y/N)'S HERE!"

The delicate chemical concoction that the genius turtle had in his hands almost slipped when he heard Mikey's, very loud, announcement, but it wasn't because his brother's shout had startled him.

He was very much used to Mikey belting out crazy things at the most random times, and barely batted an eye anymore. Living with it for your entire life does that.

No, it was what he had shouted that made him freak out.

A month ago those words wouldn't have done anything but brought a smile to his face. But now, almost every time he heard that you were in the lair, he lost all other train of thought.

"Ooooh~ Donnie's got a crush~" Was what he'd been hearing from Mikey lately, once his little brother noticed the change in his behavior. But he was a little late for teasing.

Donnie had been crushing on you almost since you'd first met, after he'd saved you from the Purple Dragons. Which was then followed by him escorting you home since you didn't seem terrified of him, and it just grew from there until you coming to the lair was a completely normal occurrence.

Somehow, his 'crush' on April had seemingly vanished, as he couldn't even begin to figure out what he'd found so enticing about her in the first place. It had been an infatuation really, and one that didn't last at that.

He'd realized that after realizing that he liked you.

Because crushing on you was different in so many ways.

For one, he never felt like he had to prove himself to you. Sure, he constantly tried to impress you, but it didn't feel like a losing battle when he did. Because you always seemed amazed by anything he did.

You were by no means dumb, but you still looked like your mind had been blown everytime Donnie showed you one of his projects, and the awestruck expression that appeared on your face always made him smile like an idiot.

And of course stutter like one too.

That was one thing that was the same. Anytime he got flustered, which was a lot, he couldn't seem to keep his words in order, and sounded more like a parrot than a highly educated humanoid turtle.

But you never said anything if you noticed it. In fact, you had never once said or done anything that made him feel embarrassed. Any of that was always solely on himself.

And that fact, brings him to another big difference in his crush on you versus his 'crush' on April.

The time he had felt the most embarrassed and devastated, and when it had changed to him being somewhat awkward around you.

He'd been in a dreamy haze ever since he met you, random scenarios of what it'd be like if you two were together almost always in his mind. And then, one day when you were hanging out in the lab, you got a phone call. And as soon as the call was over, you were gathering your stuff, and apologizing because you had to meet up with a guy named (b/f/n).

Your boyfriend.

He could literally hear the sounds of his entire world shattering at the news, and he felt like a complete idiot for not thinking about it before.

Of course you already had a boyfriend. Why wouldn't you? You probably had plenty of people pining after you, you were so amazing. And here, he'd been thinking he might have a chance.

How could he have been that stupid?

Sure, you were nice. And sweet, and smart, and caring, and compassionate, and.... just the best. But that didn't mean that you would date a mutant freak.
