As I opened my eyes, I still felt tired. Was it too soon to believe that this world was real, that it wasn't a bad dream or nightmare?
Overwhelmed, I felt my facade crumbling, my mind spiraling into a darker place with each passing moment.
Oh, Lucius, if only you were here with me, never to leave our world.
As the cold touch of water droplets on my skin revealed my tears, I realized how vulnerable I was, a betrayal of the emotions I had desperately tried to hide after my loss.
How pathetic of me. I'm still relying on him even after he disappeared. I swiped my sleeve across my tear-streaked face after releasing my pent-up emotions. As I was about to enter the corridor, I noticed a figure lingering by the door.
"Are you alright?"
Lifting my gaze, I met Ren's eyes and stammered, 'Wh-What?'"
"You're crying, what's wrong?" Ren asked.
"Ah! No, no, no. This is just allergies, no need to worry about me."
Ren's expression remained unchanged. This did not convince him. "Accept it, I insist," he said, extending a pack of tissues toward me.
With reluctance, I took the tissues and tended to my runny nose. I slumped against the wall, and Ren settled beside me.
"Why stay?" I inquired, puzzled. Shouldn't he be on his way?
"I'm waiting for Nora, my friend. She's getting ready in the bathroom, but I also wanted to be here for you, to offer support in any way I can—even if it means sharing a quiet moment. Feel free to confide in me," he offered.
"I... What if you appeared in a world you had no "knowledge" of? A completely different world from your own, abandoned completely with no one or thing to help you."
"Even in an unfamiliar world, our actions, not our surroundings, define us. Our inner strength and resolve guide us through the unknown. Thus, even in abandonment, we are never truly alone if we hold onto our sense of self," Ren explained.
How typical of an answer by him. But that didn't matter, and it was genuine advice.
"That's...nice to know."
"I'm glad I can help. What is your name?"
"It's Kaiser, yours?"
"Ren."
"It's nice to meet you, Ren."
"Here goes the same, but why were you crying, if you don't mind me asking?"
"I'm just tired. I wish my friend were there for me, but he's gone."
"...I'm sorry for your loss."
"It's okay. I've gotten used to it. I still strive to follow his advice.
I was glad to have a conversation with him. He was indeed a good person, just like the show depicted. I was feeling better than before
Then Nora popped out of nowhere, "Who's this Ren!?"
"It's just a friend of mine. This is Kaiser," he responded.
A friend, huh?
"Hello there?"
"Why indeed! I'm Nora. It's nice to meet you, Kaiser!"
"Haha... nice to meet you too."
"Any friend of Ren is a friend of mine!" She yelled before spinning me around.
"I-I t-hin-k I might throw up."
Ren stopped her, saying, "Sorry about that. She's quite the hothead."
