Welcome, everyone!

First of all, I want to thank you for clicking on this story. It has been the product of many years of hard, passionate work and I am very proud of how it has turned out thus far.

The 'The Girl Out Of Time' trilogy follows the plot of the BBC TV series 'Merlin' with the insertion of an original female character – Astraea Aphelion – as a protagonist. I have taken special care to craft a realistic, layered person with a well-rooted backstory and a unique personality in the hopes of giving her as strong a presence as that of the already-established characters from the original series.

Ninety-nine percent of the story is written in a first person point of view, with some omniscient narrator bits thrown here and there. I've become aware that a lot of people don't necessarily like this format, but please give it an opportunity! Of course I'm entirely biased, but I believe that Astraea is an interesting enough character that you will enjoy seeing the world through her eyes (and her internal monologue is always a blast to write!).

You might find that the story starts out in a somewhat goofy and, perhaps, shallow manner that maybe presents Astra as nothing more but a bottomless barrel of sarcasm and movie references – this was done by design. Give it time. Deeper, more meaningful themes start to emerge as the character immerses herself into the new world she's placed into and you get to see different sides to her as the plot progresses.

Astraea is a very sarcastic and playful character who's not really the best at navigating social situations – much less in a different time period! She's not the Mary Sue type and, while I've had a lot of fun writing her, I'm aware that her personality might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's up to you to make up your mind about her!

There are many references to 'pop culture' (especially Marvel!) because Astraea is a fan-girl at heart. Just like you and I!

The love story between Astraea and Arthur is very much a slow-burn from beginning to end. Even after they get together. And it is filled with fluff. Lots and lots of fluff.

I do my best to avoid giving Astraea lines or actions that belong to other characters in the original series. She makes choices that affect the plot and sometimes send it spinning in directions that veer off the originally marked path. This is especially shown as her relationship with Arthur progresses – since she's a very different person from Gwen and I refuse to simply copy-paste her story with Arthur and call it a day.

Speaking of Gwen – I've done my best not to cast her aside to make room for my own character. She's still an important part of the story, with some added twists –including a mild sprinkle of 'Merwen'.

Another thing I want to mention is that I've softened Uther's character a bit to fit with the plot I created – and also because I wanted to make him more layered than the one-dimensional, hard-headed, tyrant ruler that the fandom often makes him out to be (not without reason!).

You can also expect to read a ton of fun moments with the knights! And, obviously, with Merlin himself – who remains the most essential piece to the plot, even if the narration isn't centred around him.

'The Girl Out Of Time' is divided as follows:

1. Paper Wings* (COMPLETE) – covers most of season one and a small fraction of two. Can be read as a stand-alone.

2. Rise (COMPLETE) – covers the remainder of season two and all of three.

3. Unbreakable Heart (will begin publishing on 2 August 2024!) – covers seasons four and five with some twists that I hope you'll enjoy.

*will be edited again soon to fix some inconsistencies and format.

By the time it's complete, 'The Girl Out Of Time' will be one of the longest 'Arthur Pendragon x fem!OC' fanfics on Wattpad, so buckle up for a very long and emotional rollercoaster!

This story is rated 'Mature' for themes such as: canon-typical violence, death, references to self-harm, mentions of mental illness, panic attacks, harassment, among other things. Chapters that contain any of the aforementioned topics have a warning at the beginning. There is no 'smut'.

Feel free to leave as many votes and comments as you'd like! I don't mind spams – quite the contrary, they make my days! I'm also always open to feedback and suggestions. Anything goes as long as you're respectful about it :)

I'm always happy to return votes and comments on other Arthur Pendragon stories – so if you're writing one, please leave a comment stating so!

I'm sure I'll come up with something more to add here eventually, but for now – I hope you enjoy my adaptation of the BBC's 'Merlin'. And thank you, again, for giving it an opportunity!

Have a blessed day <3
