CHAPTER VIII: hope

Sora was on the field outside of Jujutsu Tech, training with Megumi and preparing for the Goodwill Event which is going to take place tomorrow.

"How are you holding up?" Megumi asks grunting at every attack he tried towards Sora's wooden stick with his. Sora remembered that no Nobara nor Megumi had known for Yuji's comeback in the living which he will probably reveal tomorrow.

"Fine, As always." She answered and swinged on her foot, hitting the side of Megumi's head which he dodged with his training weapon. "Are you sure? You've been distancing yourself from everybody, especially from me. I know how you feel about secrets and losses."

Sora let out a grunt as she moved her head to the side not wishing to be hit by the end of Megumi's stick, "I've been busy, with training and all. Why should I care about people I haven't spoken a word with?"

Sora lied. Since she started to train Itadori, their conversation always seemed to go well and they weren't repeating the same themes. She taught him and he taught her...how to smile. Even though he failed to lighten the Geto up, he had at least tried to do so. Sora couldn't lie, she was having a great time with Yuji—especially having him do everything she says. He didn't seem bad after all.
But, that still doesn't mean she cares about him? He's her classmate and will probably be until the end when they graduate or until, something goes wrong and they get executed.

Sora cared for Megumi and the rest, but she couldn't let herself be caged once again if one of them dies. We all die, she always told herself at every death she faces.

"I guess so. You've always been a heartless person," With this comment Megumi spoke, Sora swept under his legs with the wooden stick which made the Fushiguro boy fall onto the floor with a thud. "And you're always going to be a depressed kid with daddy issues."

Megumi rolled his eyes in annoyance at the mention of his father which Sora knew too well that he didn't care about him, not a single bit. "See you later, gummy bear!" Sora said, walking away as she waved him off while Megumi got off the floor.

"I told you to stop calling me that!" Megumi spat with a scoff, "Yeah, yeah." She said with a roll of her eyes and took a turn towards the entry of the school.

Sora was training with one of her weapons in her room, until a sudden knock on her window distracted her. She turned her head breathlessly to her right and upon noticing Yuji—barely standing and full of injuries, she was quick to jump over her bed to him. As she slid the window opened, Yuji exhaustingly fell into her arms. Sora peeked her head outside the window, turning her head left and right to see any sign of other sorcerers. When she saw none, she wrapped her arm around Yuji's waist and placed his around her neck as she helped him enter the room before placing him down on one of the chairs.

Sora covered the windows and locked the doors—if anyone would see Yuji alive in her room, things would turn out badly. She crouched down in front of him, calling his name and holding his head from falling downwards. Yuji's eyes were barely open and were stained of tears as so were his knuckles covered with blood. Multiple bruises were on his face and body, which means he was in a fight.

"Yuji!" Sora finally shook him and Yuji was able to open his eyes, but barely. Itadori glanced around the room, without moving his head until his eyes landed upon worried face of Sora's and her cold hands placed on his cheeks. That's when it all came back to Yuji. Nanami Kento and their fight with a man covered in stitches and Junpei...Oh, Junpei.

"I'm so sorry," was all Itadori could mumble out through his trembling voice and quivered lips. He let his head fall forward for it to land on Sora's shoulder as he began crying and sobbing quietly. Sora hasn't expected for someone to be crying in her arms for the first time in years—the last time someone did, was Megumi when he was still a child.

She didn't know what he was crying for or what he was sorry for. Did he kill someone? Did something happen to Nanami? What even did happen?

Sora's lips closed shut and so did her eyes, she brought her hand slowly to Itadori's head and placed it behind. Yuji's legs were so sore from standing that he couldn't even sit as he slowly slid off the chair and Sora caught him just in time, bringing both of them carefully on the floor. The Geto woman brought her free arm around Yuji's back and brought him closer to her as she shushed him,

"It's going to be fine, I promise." She kept repeating, comforting him with words that everything is going to be okay. She felt the stone around her heart fall from Yuji's quiet sobs filling her ears.

"I lost, I'm sorry." Itadori responded. Sora lifted his head off of her shoulder and cupped his face, "Hey, listen to me." She began, running her hands through his hair and moving it off his sweaty forehead. Sora kept her hand behind on Yuji's head with her thumbs brushing off the wet tears,

"Whatever that you lost in, it's okay, You hear me? By your appearance, I guess you got yourself in a bad fight, but it doesn't matter," She spoke with a shook of her head, lightly shaking his head for him to listen carefully. "Tell me what happened, Itadori, who hurt you? Who did this?" Her tone has changed into a demanding one as Yuji began calming down.

After Yuji got himself to calm down and explain the whole situation that happened in these past days, Sora finally understood. He lost a friend, and let Sukuna out once again. Yuji was afraid,

"You may have lost, but you regained something else." Sora spoke, holding the ice bag on his left eye by the bruise he had gotten. Yuji glanced to her confusingly as he sat on the chair opposite of her who sat on her bed.

"Hope, in yourself. You said it yourself, until you kill that guy, you won't loose anymore. However, future cannot be guaranteed. What happens if you loose a fight with another curse? Will you just give up and spend your eternity of life that you had left crying and throwing tantrums?"

"He was an innocent person, Geto-sama—" Itadori began,

"As are you. His future has been decided, he ruined the chance for his  by even listening to curses in the first place. That's not your fault, Itadori-kun.  Everyone dies..some quick than others, but that's how life is. Are you going to let this one mistake—one loss in a fight, affect your whole life? Huh?" Sora questioned, as Itadori shook his head unsurely.

"Walk proudly," She brought her hand to his chin and slightly lifted it, "You're a sorcerer, you got yourself a technique. You're lucky I won't be having you run around with four serpents chasing you, though." Sora brought the ice pack off his eyes and double slapped him lightly on the cheek as she stood up. Yuji in respond hissed in pain and brought his hand to his eye,

"Here. Cool yourself off," She threw the ice pack into his lap. Yuji glanced up to her direction only for his eyes to widen at the sight of her body structure, she was at last in sweatpants and tight black t-shirt. The boy blinked rapidly, not knowing if his vision was cheating him or she was real.

"Stop starring or I'll gut your eyes out." She threatened, showing the dagger in her hand as she kept her back facing Itadori. The teenage boy quickly looked away and rolled to the other side of the room, whistling a melody to himself. Sora lightly smiled to herself and upon realising she was smiling because of Yuji, she quickly rested her face and her smile faded away.
