"They're great. Can we go now?" By no choice of my own, we end up taking Kyle in Oxford Street to buy some new sneakers to feed his obsession and now I'm laying on an uncomfortable chair, waiting for Kyle to pick between the black, red and blue.
"I already have some blue ones though."
"You also have red and black ones. I swear the only colour you don't have is rainbow." His eyes light up.
"Oh my god yes!" He runs off, wearing one red sneaker and one blue one. I groan and roll off the chair ungracefully, making my way outside the store where Charlotte is standing, waiting with the dog. "Has he chosen yet?" She asks hopefully. I shake my head.
"He's gone to look for rainbow ones." I press my forehead against the brick wall, trying not to complain too much.
"Want to see?" Kyle taps me on the shoulder, a big grin on his face and a box in his hands.
"You picked?" I ask happily. He nods and opens the box, showing me some white sneakers with rainbows around the soles and rainbow laces.
"Wicked." I laugh. We all start to walk down the street, instantly happier.
"Thor!!" A little girl skids to a halt in front of us, grinning from ear to ear.
"Um, excuse me?" I look down to the tiny girl, grinning from ear to ear.
"You found my Thor!" She squeals.
"Oh my, I'm so sorry! Ainely calm down. And don't you dare run away from me like that again!" A woman comes up behind the little girl, staring down at her sternly.
"But they found Thor!" She exclaims.
"Thor?" The dog beside me looks up and walks over to her obediently.
"Sit." She tries. Thor sits down immediately. The woman breaks into a grin and the little girl hugs the fluffy animal.
"This is your dog?" I ask, trying not to feel too upset.
"Yes, we lost him two weeks ago. Thank you so much for looking after him!" The girl suddenly throws her arms around my legs.
"Thank you! You're my hero." She grins at me proudly.
"Will you bring him to the park with me?" She asks. I look to Charlotte, who looks uncertain, but Kyle butts in.
"Yeah we will! It'll be great! I'll push you on the swings if you like. And we can find a stick and play fetch with Thor!" Kyle and the little girl begin to walk down the street, chatting excitedly, the woman following close behind.
"Let's go then" Charlotte says with a childish grin. She hits my arm.
"You're it!" She laughs before running down the crowded street.
