"Callon..."

Axel was frozen. He could not fire his gun. The deep, forest-green eyes of the half-demon lying beneath him widened as the hangel voiced his name. However, they quickly slanted again, and the half-demon took advantage of Axel's state of shock. Having lost his daggers, claws extruded from the tips of his fingers, as he slashed Axel across the chest.

Axel cried out in pain as Callon threw the hangel off of him and jumped to his feet. Blood seeped from the slashes striping his chest, but Axel paid no heed to his injuries. Instead, he stumbled toward the half-demon and reached for him. "Callon...it's me...Axel."

Axel was aware that the half-demon was not in his right mind. His eyes were glazed over and cold. But Axel tried his best to get through to his friend nevertheless. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you."

Despite Axel's plea for a cease-fire between the two, the half-demon released a low snarl and charged toward the hangel with his claws aimed at Axel's heart. Realizing that Callon had no recollection of him whatsoever, Axel prepared to defend himself. While he did not wish to hurt the half-demon, he also was not fond of the idea of being skewered by his friend.

As the half-demon sped toward Axel as the hangel lifted his gun, a black sword suddenly flew from the sky and pierced through Callon's chest, barely missing his heart. "Callon!" Calling out the half-demon's name, Axel raced to Callon as he spat out a mouthful of blood and fell to his knees.

The ruffling of wings sounded behind Axel as an angel landed behind the two. Callon cried out in pain as the angel reached out his hand and extracted the black blade from the half-demon's chest. Blood splattered onto Axel's face and neck as he watched the sword fly out of Callon. "Callon. Callon! Stay with me." Axel supported the half-demon as his body shook from the pain that consumed him.

"Axel." A voice rang out behind Axel, causing his heart to stop. He knew that voice. Turning, Axel locked gaze with the angel's vivid purple eyes. "Kilo," Axel released in a breath of relief as he saw the lt. colonel standing behind him. However, Axel's relief turned into horror when he saw the black blade in Kilo's hands that was dripping with Callon's blood.

"Please don't kill him." Tears touched Axel's eyes as he begged the angel to spare Callon's life. He understood why Kilo pierced Callon. The half-demon was charging toward him with his claws bared; Kilo was only protecting him. But, Axel still could not let Kilo kill his friend regardless if he was in his right mind or not.

Kilo furrowed his brows as he watched the hangel protect the half-demon that nearly killed him. Folding his wings to rest against his back, Kilo walked toward the half-demon who clutched the gaping wound in his chest. The half-demon's body shook as it continued to lose massive amounts of blood. Moving his gaze to Axel who continued to beg him to spare the half-demon, Kilo released a breath before lifting his blade.

Axel's eyes widened when he saw Kilo raise his sword. "No, no, please. Spare him, please. He would never hurt me like this. They did something to him. Please." Axel held his breath as he watched Kilo's hand fall, but he quickly released it in a sigh as the butt of Kilo's sword collided with Callon's head, rendering the half-demon unconscious. He spared him.

"Thank you..."

Kilo looked at Axel through sad eyes as he watched Axel try his best to stop the blood oozing from the half-demon's wound. At that moment, the hangel reminded Kilo of a certain angel from his past who also begged him to spare a demon. Kilo did not see the harm in sparing a person who had someone begging for their life to be pardoned. If this turned out to be the wrong choice, Kilo could easily dispel the half-demon upon a moment's notice.

Stooping down, Kilo picked up the young half-demon as if he weighed nothing and drooped him over his shoulder. "Come, Axel," Kilo said as he began heading back to where the battle had begun. "Zetha will see to his wound."
