Rae's lips were captivating, and his kiss was filled with adoration and desire. While neither wished to break the kiss, several insanely loud booms sounded in the sky that immediately caught the two soldiers' attention. Standing to their feet, Rae and Axel walked over to the shattered windows of the clinic and looked to the sky.
The booms had been caused by multiple spaceships breaking through Earth's atmosphere while exiting hyperdrive and entering the blue skies of humanity's home planet. Along with ships from Heaven's Division of Defense came craft from Neptune, Jupiter, and Mars. Heaven had answered Earth's call for help.
"They came," Axel breathed in relief as he watched the numerous air fleets travel toward the Transport Tower. Perhaps Angel's Landing won't be needed to end the war. Hopefully, this will be enough to stop Hades.
Hades was not equipped with massive aircraft such as the ones just entering Earth's skies, so Axel was hopeful that this would be the final battle between Hades and Earth. However, an explosion at the center of Dexys turned Axel's hope into despair. Looking away from the skies and toward the location of the battle that was currently raging, Axel's breath left his lungs as he saw the Transport Tower crumpling to the ground.
Castyr! Kilo! Makio, Zetha, Destil...! Everyone from Unit R had continued on with the fight and were where the explosion had just occurred. "Colonel...everyone is..." Axel turned to Rae with fear-filled eyes as Rae attempted to reach Kilo telepathically.
When he did not receive an immediate response, Rae asked Axel, "Can you fight?"
Most of Axel's exhaustion from using the launcher had disappeared in his sleep during the night, so he nodded and confidently answered, "Yes."
Upon receiving Axel's answer, Rae extended his hand and closed his eyes as he recalled his blade. After a short moment, Genyr pierced through a mostly intact window as it flew from where it had fallen and returned to its angel's hand. Quickly sheathing Genyr upon reuniting with his sword, Rae pulled Axel close to him before leading the hangel to the edge of the building.
After breaking off more of the shattered glass to create a large opening in the window wall, Rae interlaced his fingers with Axel's before leaping through the window. Although Axel was prepared for the jump, the sudden weightlessness that consumed him sent chills down his spine. However, they were short-lived as Rae flipped himself over and quickly pulled Axel into him to land on his chest and spread his large wings.
Rae's strong arms wrapped around Axel's waist as the angel lifted himself and the hangel into the sky. The cold, winter wind whipped around Axel as Rae flew the two of them toward the raging battle, but the warmth from Rae's chest was enough to keep Axel from shivering too badly.
As he flew, Rae continued to reach out to the members of his unit. The longer his unit remained silent, the harder Rae prayed, and, at long last, Azyr's voice broke through Rae's prayers.
Colonel?! The leader of R-11 seemed relieved to have received Rae's telepathic messages. You're alive! Where are you? Makio fell behind to search for you and Axel. Thank the heavens you're okay.
I'm with Axel. We're heading toward the Transport Tower. What about the rest of the unit?
We're all fine. Several of us were knocked unconscious from the blast, but everyone survived the explosion.
Rae was relieved to hear that his unit was intact. He thanked Azyr for keeping everyone safe while he was away and updated Axel on the unit's whereabouts and condition as he continued to fly toward the downed Transport Tower.
Luckily for Rae and Axel, most of Hades' forces, which were usually hiding throughout the city, had been called to the battle at the Transport Tower, so there was no danger in flying between the skyreachers. Axel craned his head back to look at the air fleets currently flying overhead, his jaw gaping in awe as he took in the size and power of the ships.
