Portimao - Portugal

For the shootout I'd luckily have the mentor of a lifetime. Porsche Carrera cup GB champion Adam Smalley by my side. He would be there to help me with setup and how to maximise the potential of the car as we headed into the weekend.

"How's it feeling?" Adam said as I open the door and jumped out after the first 3 hour session

"Good, it's got mostly good balance and even when I choose to induce Oversteer for the corner exit it's easily recoverable"

"Good, we'll go through some data and then you've got another run. Let's find them extra tenths" he said as we walked out the garage.

Pulling off my helmet and balaclava, handing it to Jess who had joined me on the journey and offered to be my helper for the weekend.

As we looked through the data and onboards, Adam constantly was giving pointers on Braking points/Turning points for the whole hour as I took notes for reference later on

"At the minute you're quickest out there so I have no real issues but if you iron out everything I have no doubts you'll be walking away with that Porsche Junior role, it's a matter of extending your lead you currently have to stand out" He said

"Gonna have to extend it then" I said as I picked up my helmet and walked back to the pit box

"Pitlane open in 3 minutes" I hear over my earpiece as I get in the car and get strapped in, firing the engine and waiting for the call

"First gear, Clutch in" my engineer said momentarily before clicking the radio again "and go" He said waving me out

"So we're going to let you focus, Warm up lap we'll give you all the information then from the exit of the next corner we'll commence radio silence, only asking for updates every now and again"

"Copy" I said as I adjusted my brake bias and got the tyres into operating temperature

Exiting Turn 14 I adjusted to the racing line and rounding the last corner I planted my foot for the Run down to T1

Hitting the brake point and aiming for the inside curb, the right side tyres jumping as I slight clip the curb. Corner by corner the car became more alive, the engine noise of the engine and the whine of the straight cut gears filled the cockpit.

"Balance okay?" The engineer says over the radio

"Yep, all good"

It went quick for me, but I was out there for about 4 hours with occasional pit stops to rack up the laps before the first stoppage of the day came

"Okay, Y/n, Red Flag. Red Flag, drop your speed and into pitlane. Engine off when you stop"

After cutting the engine I got out the car and walked into the garage, taking off my gloves and placing them on the side as Adam walked in

"Well done mate" he said as he took off his headset and put it on the side

"No well done you, it was hooked up out there" I said trying to taking the focus off me as I unclipped my helmet strap

"Takes one to pull the potential out of it though" he said as Jess took my helmet to the truck

"Why's there a red?" I said as I took opened a bottle of water and had a drink
