A Court Of Love & Sufferings

ch.1

10 years later

I open my eyes blinking furiously to lessen the burn happening from the sudden light intrusion in the dark chambers. I train in these dark chambers i don't exactly know why but the king's orders. Everyday my routine starts with waking up coming in these chambers to practice my abilities till my next task. Once a week i get summoned by the king for my special task of the week. If i fail those tasks i get punished. The punishment usually are no meals for the next few days or doing chores.

The door to my chamber is opened two soldiers enter " get up and follow us".

I do so ,jogging to follow their steps with my little legs. We enter the hall, the king is seated on a throne.

''My child you've come to greet me'' i bow to show respect.

The king claps twice , soldiers enter the room with a tied up man between them. The man is shackled with heavy metal handcuffs, his face covered with a cloth.

The king says ''look at him he is your today's assignment. You will practice on him''.

I give him a confused look not understanding what he meant.

The man's face cloth is removed, i see two pointed ears coming out ..a fae..probably a high fae.

The king continues ''you will kill him with your mother blessed ability''.

I stagger back shocked... It can't be...
Kill? I have to kill someone ?
I reply ''No I won't kill anyone''

The king face turns into a evil smirk ''you will'' he says.

Behind me the soldiers drags two women in. ''If you won't kill him then these two will die instead'' says the king.

I am horrified they are my attendants ... they are the only people who care for me. Lily and poppy, they were my mother's maid. After she passed away they have taken care of me. I can't lose them.
I turn towards the king  "please no. . . don't do that don't kill Lily and poppy"

The king smiles ''I won't my child if you do as i say. Now concentrate your power and focus on the man''

I tear up i will have to do that otherwise
lily and poppy will die. Sobbing i turn towards the man. He is trembling, screaming as he begs me not to kill him.

'"Hurry up'' the king shouts.

I close my eyes focusing my mind towards the dark place inside me, concentrating enough i look into the eyes of the man as tendrils of darkness starts appearing. The man kicks air struggling to save himself as my darkness engulfs him wholly. I say in my mind. let go i can only give you painless death.
He stops struggling, his eyes go unmoving.
His breathing turns shallow as i let him drown in the darkness. I am sorry i say before he stops breathing completely. I pull back the shadows his body crashes against the floor. With no strength left i fall on my knees breathing heavily.

''Very well my child you did great, i am impressed. Now you shall rest till i call for you again'' the king said.

I stumble through the corridors running away from what i just did
I close the door of my room leaning against it.

I killed someone

I killed that man

I am a killer

My breathing turns shallow as i realize what i have done. I am a horrible person, i have taken a life. I hate the king. He made me do it. Fighting these emotions i fall in a deep slumber.
