Chapter one: Saishou Sora
LIFE OUTSIDE OF YOUR APARTMENT WINDOW looked gloomy and bleak. A great blanket of grey sky lowered over heaven, further starving the already lifeless city of any sunlight; the only source of warmth being from car exhausts and large crowds of people. You frowned, forcing your gaze away from the depressing view to glance back at the cooking show playing on your TV, which was slowly becoming more boring by the second. Just as you reached for the remote, your phone began to buzz in your lap, displaying an unknown called id on its screen.
Your first guess was Gin.
Gin often called you from different phones, so you didn't have a number saved for her. She always claimed it was because of work, but never told you a solid reason as to why. Quickly, you answered, placing the device next to your ear.
"Hello." The voice rang out. You noted that it was laced with a light American accent. Definitely not Gin then. "Is this Y/N?" You frowned, pausing the TV to focus on the suspicious caller.
"Yeah. That's me."
"Oh, thank god!" The speaker suddenly relaxed, causing you to ease up a little in return. "Y/N. It's Sora!"
"Sora...?" You didn't quite know whether you should feel pleased or not — confusion began to take you by the back of the neck. "Sora, how did you get my number?"
"I have a lot of connections with my new job. Have you seen me anywhere on the news over there in Japan?" You frowned, noting how easygoing she was, albeit not having heard your voice for years.
"No. I don't think so."
"Ugh." She groaned. "How annoying. Hopefully you'll hear of me soon, I'm an up and coming hero in America, after all."
"What...?" Your eyes widened in shock. "Sora, your joking? How..?"
"The woman that offered me the work experience was a woman called Cathleen Bate. Turns out she's a big shot over here in the states. Let's just say she pulled a couple strings." You could feel her grinning through the phone. "But anyways, now that I have a stable income, I wanted to find you and Gin. How is Gin, by the way? Is she with you?"
You bit your lip, thinking back to the last time you saw either of your sisters. "No, it's just me now. Gin's always off working. But she's paying for my apartment at the moment."
"Oh...I see." Sora sighed, a little dejectedly. "What does she work as?"
"I dunno." You shrugged. "Obviously something good cause this apartment is...amazing. To say the least." You pressed your palms into the couch. "Compared to the orphanage, it's paradise."
"Haha, I'm glad to hear you're doing alright."
You nodded. "Of course. The same goes for you."
"Well, money wasn't the only thing I wanted to talk about — have you decided on a high school yet?"
You bit your lip, the sudden question catching you off guard. "Not really... I want to go somewhere good, but I don't really know what I want to do after. Y'know?"
"Have you ever thought about U.A?"
Your lips parted at the thought. U.A had never really been an option until now. Would you even have a chance?
"No, I can't say I have."
"Well, I think you should give it a shot. I've asked one of my hero friends; Mirko to work with you on honing in your quirk and combat skills for the practical exam, and I can hire a tutor to help you for the written."
Suddenly, a new pathway had opened up. It reminded you of what Gin said all those months ago."I-I dunno Sora. U.A is big. As in prestigious high school big. I couldn't possibly..."
"With the right training I'm sure you'll get in. Depending on your performance with Mirko, I can probably recommend you to the school as well."
You were silent for a moment, pondering over the idea. You? A hero? It seemed like a fever dream.
"Y/N? You there?" Sora's voice pulled you away from your thoughts.
"Oh- Yeah. Sorry."
"No worries." She grinned. "I really think you should go for it though. I'll make sure to tell Mirko you're popping over to her agency soon."
"Alright then..." You agreed nervously. Perhaps this would be a good thing.
"Oh- and Y/N? Before I go, I just wanted to let you know I've adopted the last name Saishou. It means maximum. I dunno...I thought it was fitting. But I'd like for you and Gin to share the same surname as me too. We are sisters after all."
Suddenly, all doubts about your older sister were washed away, a small smile finding its way onto your face at the thought of you all being united under one name. Like a real family.
"Saishou...Sounds good. I'll make sure to pass it onto Gin."
"Really?! Thanks Y/N. You're the best lil sis any big sis could ask for!"
"Lil sis?" You snorted. "Is that an American thing?"
"Yup! It grew on me quickly. I thought it would be perfect for my wittle Y/N-san-"
"Okay, okay. I get it. I'll go check that Mirko lady out if you send me the address."
"Okay, make sure to save me as something cute!" She sang.
"Sure." You chuckled. "Bye Sora, love you!"
"Love you too lil sis! Can't wait to see you in U.A uniform!" You rolled your eyes at the thought.
"Sure. Bye Sora." You repeated before hanging up. You quickly clicked on the number, adding it to your contacts, and naming is 'Snora'. She would definitely kick off if she found out. You put your phone down, continuing to watch your cooking show, before a 'ping' sounded throughout the room, signalling that your sister had sent the address.
