Ch.16 – Saving Lieutenant Iolpola
In the forest, the SL234 truck went to a halt about five hundred meters by the edge of the treeline. Inside the Sythian truck, the first platoon, cramped inside, hopped out and ran out. Gunfire rang in the distance, and everyone went quick so they wouldn't be too late. Isanna had the laser pistol out, and she followed her sergeant.
After a couple minutes of running, they got to their position and looked at the surroundings. The BE.203 wreck was just seven hundred meters out, but about four hundred meters was where some fighting was happening.
"Ok, looks like you are clear to go," Lt. Noltip, the leader of the first platoon, said on the radio. "Remember the goal. Move out and save the other lieutenant."
The soldiers ran out, keeping low as they approached the combat. About three minutes later, they got a sight of the survivors. They fired their laser guns toward something in the distance, likely enemy soldiers.
"Right here, Lieutenant!" Lt. Noltip said as he peeked out from under his cover, holding his rifle up.
"Ah! Great!" Lt. Iolpola said and looked at his men. "Let's go!"
Nine soldiers got out of their position and went prone, going low to regroup with the others behind. But some looked back and poked their heads up, nervous about what their enemies had.
"Colonel, your guys got to us! But there are many enemies coming to us!" Lt. Iolpola said to his radio. "Iranian and Chinese forces!"
"Get out as fast as you can! We cannot risk being spotted!" Col. Ousib ordered on the radio.
By the time the two groups met up, a jet engine hummed in the distance. Along with that, helicopters also buzzed alongside the jet. A few seconds later, a huge aircraft flew overhead, along with some helicopters, which faced the aliens.
These helicopters were Mi-17s, Russian helicopters. But they were different from the usual helicopter. It looked like the helicopters were snakes, flying low and launching their ordinance at incredibly low altitudes.
"Ok, what the fuck, let's run!" Sgt. Ninos yelled.
Isanna ran with the others as fast as she could, while the helicopters fired the aliens up. As they passed, some soldiers got out AA launchers and aimed for a lock. But Isanna was too busy trying to run away.
"Aw shit!" Sgt. Ninos said as he glanced over at something.
"Hm?" Isanna looked at what the Sergeant saw. "Oh!"
Above, an Il-76 turned as it flew by, and paratroopers dropped out. They looked tiny compared to the huge aircraft and drifted down all around the aliens.
"What now?" Isanna asked as she got out her pistol. "Think I can shoot them?"
"Don't! You'll just waste bullets trying to hit their bodies!" Sgt. Ninos said. "Let's just make a run before they land!"
While the soldiers ran back into the woods, the helicopters made another pass, this time striking more soldiers, even though they attempted to dodge the helicopters. But one soldier fired his AA launcher, striking a helo before the pilots could even react. When the helo smashed into the ground, two jet aircraft appeared over some hills and dove to their targets.
They were Su-25s, a powerful Soviet strike aircraft. It was a powerful aircraft, more maneuverable than the A-10, but having a less powerful armament. On their hard points were four sets of FAB-500 five-hundred-kilogram bombs and four rocket pods.
